And usually at around 90K the radiator and cooling hoses and coolant. Anti-Freeze (coolant) should be replaced every five years bc as it ages it gets more acidic. The PH level goes up(& up) and it eats the cooling system from the inside out as time goes by. Also one should use the proper BMW coolant as its different from say Prestone or what ever your local store sells.

I'm officially freaked out and I'm going to be ordering both in the late Spring. I might as well give adjusting my front wastegate a shot while I'm in there. My mileage is at 113K.
Dack....if the PH is going up...wouldn't it be getting more basic not acidic |

Yea... your right. I did not mean that "up" figuratively. But the coolant does get more acidic was time goes on. Also the coolant loses its ability to stop corrosion.

I'm still covered under the CPO warranty so I think I will take my chances and wait to see if my pump fails on me before CPO ends.

I dont think this covers enough models that have the same engines / water pumps. I had an E85 Z4 that lost it mind when the water pump failed. I had to have it towed not doubt to the dealer to have it replaced. Same engine water pump.
Year 06 Model Z4 3.0i roadster N52 around 65K = fail

I have an 09 135i that just hit 50k miles and I'm still on the original pump. But, about 1.5k miles ago the coolant light came on and that got me worried. I filled it back up that same day and the level is still good to date, but I'm wondering if that was a sign of issues to come, or if it was just low for some reason. I assume a dealership won't replace it just because it 'might' fail, before my warranty runs out, huh?

MY 2008, built 03 2008 51700 Miles. N54, cost 1238 no warranty.
This turned out to be an interesting ordeal. 1. Water Pump Fails 2. Replaced by Wichita BMW 3. Driving home the Oil Temperature gage goes to 250 after 5 minuts of driving and the oil level indicator says inactive. The Oil Temperature gage dropped down to 200 in about 2 seconds as I was watching it, and then the Oil level gage showed the right amount of oil. No indication of anything wrong. 4. Got home parked the car came back out after an hour and had coolant all over the garage floor. 5. Tow truck came the next morning and the battery was dead. Had to push the car out of the garage. 6. BMW replaced the water pump the next day and said that apparently the first water pump replacement shorted internally as I was driving down the road causing the bizzare gauge malfunctions and drained the battery overnight. 7. Alls well that ends well, but just be aware that if the pump dies it can cause some strange things to happen. These cars will cause you to fret, and I was cursing it for a while but in the end they are too much fun to give up. |

26 waterpump failures out of 192. Not looking good. This just goes to show us that the waterpumps need to be replaced.

Also need to change my vote. The WP in my 2009 135i failed. Water Pump Kit replaced by dealer under warranty at 14K miles.

Spoke too soon . . .
No lie, I answered this poll two weeks ago and my water pump grenaded.
53,000 miles Covered under extended warranty. Since my warranty expired, I've had seat airbag issues $$$ and the water pump go out . . . Smart purchase decision! |
