Got mine today and got it installed in about 15-20 minutes. The air outlet grill wasn't as hard to remove as I thought. I just kinda wiggled it and it came off. Took me a bit to get the connect lock to unlock but thats about it. Now...what do I do with the old switch? hehe
Thanks Andy  |

A has anyone used the Euro 125i headlight switch (with front and rear fog lights) to fit aftermarket front fog lights to the 135i?
Does the wiring exist already on the 135i to have front fogs easily added?

I would be surprised if anybody would do that, since you'd be covering the duct to your oil cooler if you put a fog light there. Might as well not even have the oil cooler, if you're going to lock it into a non-breathing chamber in your fender.

You could use small aftermarket foglights that would not block too much airflow.

I intend to leave mine off for most nights as I much prefer just the 3 light bars in the back but will turn it on if there is fog or someone tailgating me.

The amazing thing as I tell the Merc drivers 'You know you have your fogs on right?' - They actually don't know how to turn em off - I kid you not...... |

It took me years to figure out that all those "Big Body Benzes" in the ghetto with screwed-up taillights were actually just driving around with rear fogs on.

I noted a suggestion that these are not standard in the US because American drivers would not know when to use them. These two posts seem to back that up....
So, the clue being in the name - *fog* lights - you're half right here. But using them in heavy rain does nothing but cause significant dazzle to the drivers behind you, reducing, not enhancing safety. Quote:
Clearly good driving practice differs somewhat UK to US!

Ahh...the good old British sense of fair play. No such thing in the USA. We are a society of do onto others as they would do onto you.
The best part of the rear fog light is being able to get some one off your ass with out having to touch the brakes. And BTW. Drivers in this country are very much prone to tailgating at high speeds. |

Hmmm. I wonder why most cars in the US have the rear fogs disabled. I would never have thought to reach over and turn the headlamps from auto, 3 clicks to the right onto rear fogs. If so inclined, it would seem far easier to simply depress the pedal a bit so that the brakes are not actuated, but the light comes on. You would not have to remove your hands from the wheel and search for the knob. Plus you get the added bonus of stability of two hands on the wheel when that person you fake-brakejobbed decides to ram you. Sounds like a win-win.
Rear fogs do not actuate the 3rd brake light anyway. |

You need a new switch with the pushbutton on it. It is not OEM on the US cars as you think.
I used this morning and it was fun to see the face of the guy behind me light up. He definetely backed off. |

I drive somewhat frequently in California's Central valley, which is known for its dense tule fog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tule_fog) with very low visibility. Rear fog lights are a great safety feature. Thanks for the great find, Andy! |

I just did the aforementioned Euro light switch swap - as per Andy's detailed instructions - worked fine - an easy 20 minutes. I popped the grill off with no problems. It seems to work better if you start at the top as there are no clips up there, just an alignment slot. Other than the Torx 20 - no tools required. The connector clip seemed to be stuck at first, but eventually the clip moved as described.

Read through thread and I'm alittle confused. If you install 128 switch in a 135, you will have a button for front fog lights?

Yes - but it won't turn anything on, so it will be redundant. It's best to get the 135 Euro switch, shown in the op. It has the bottom switch for the rear fog light (or the 'don't tailgate me, a$$hole').
