Was looking at Mecum auctions on TV, and in fact went to the Barrett Jackson in Palm Beach, was sad to see some cars that were bought back 40 or so yrs ago with the thought/intent that they would become classics (and hence fetch a high price), only for that never to materialize. There were 1970s Caddys (mostly convertibles) and a plethora of various 'special' edition Mustangs with well under 100 miles on the odometer, but in most cases those cars didn't even return their sticker price adjusted for inflation. Kinda sad that the owner all these yrs put less than 3 miles per yr on the car, never enjoyed it, dreaming for that 'big day', but were rudely awakened to a monetized loss. Add insult to injury! So moral of the story is: drive those 1Ms, don't relegate them to garage queen status in the hopes that maaaaaybe a coulpe of decades from now, they will be worth something a lot more than they are today

That's my real hero! Kuddos to him, think about how much happier he is to drive it and enjoy it daily (even with the occasional rock chip or windshield crack per his admittance), than to see it pushed once a yr with white gloves and hear it sputter

Along the same lines, one of my dreams is to attend the Goodwood Revival. Check out some of these videos--elite pro drivers with some of the best cars ever. https://www.youtube.com/user/AMFForu...query=goodwood I love this line from the commentary at 3:20 in the video below (Whitsun Trophy race for 1960s Sports Prototypes). To me this sums up the spirit of the Goodwood Revival: "The car in second place is the rare Canadian Chinook-Chevrolet, built in Toronto by the Fejer brothers. They only built two of these Mk2 Chinooks and they're both in this race." I'm still working on my list of five... |

Here are four more in addition to the 1M I think are worthy of consideration that I don't think have been mentioned yet...
1. E46 M3 Touring (BMW M did a concept, but the car never made it to production. I'm giving serious consideration to building one in the not-too-distant future. If I'm going to do it, I'm going the CSL route, except manual transmission - so E46 M3 CSL Touring) 2. Lancia Delta Integrale (not sure if I'd want the production road car for homologation or the Group A rally car -- decisions, decisions) 3. BMW 507 (saw this at the BMW Museum during our European Delivery trip and instantly fell in love) 4. BMW E30 Touring (sorry, another wagon/hatchback ) Last edited by ///BYU; 08-24-2012 at 08:51 PM.. |

The video below was posted earlier, but remains a nice testimony of enthusiasm (and elegantly pictured). For those who had not seen it yet: (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562993)

Just a note: E46 M3 CSL, which is my all time favourite M car together with the 1M, was available only in grey and black. Of course if you are not talking about the CSL pack that was available in US too but that is not the same thing.

I just wonder if the E92 has the soul to have a legacy similar to the E30 and E46? I looks like, similar to the 98 993 was the last air of the cooled Porsches, looks like the E92 will be the last of the naturally aspirated M3s. I did not realize that my GoPro camera may have picked up the new M3 outside Munich in November 2011. Take a look, I have attached it, it looks like it has quad exhaust tips. Will be interesting... |

Not changing my list quite yet but rather upgrading one of my choices. The SLS Black! I would pass on the yellow color but otherwise this car is wicked!

Garage List 1994 Porsche 968 Cab [0.00]
2017 AMG GTS [0.00] 1994 Porsche 968 Coupe [0.00] 1977 Mercedes 450SE ... [0.00] 2008 135 [8.00] |
Great lists! Most are somewhat similar, 3-4 supercars then a track car and a daily driver (usually a BMW). Many also stick a muscle car on there. Saw tons of unique cars like a Porsche914, etc.
For me it would really come down to what kind of money I had at the time. If I were really loaded I'd pick cars including a daily driver to match. Since I doubt I'll ever be that loaded I just don't know if I'd be that comfortable aggressively driving a $500k car. My current garage is kind of weird and needs work: 1. FBO/modded 135 daily driver 2. 1994 Porsche 968 Cab part-time driver (original owner, 168k, needs paint, etc) 3. 1989 Toyota 4Runner (modded) (original owner, 145k, why paint it..lol) 4. 1977 Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 (had it since 1994, 68k, AMG cosmetic mods) 5. 1962 Mercedes 190SL, rusted out, took apart to restore in 1995 I should sell both my Mercedes first. 968's are great track cars but mine is a cabriolet so I'd really just as soon restore this one better and buy some other non-cabriolet for a track car. Cars I have always loved that wouldn't be too hard to afford: 1. Acura NSX 2. BMW 850 3. mid 90's Porsche, would especially love a turbo and then mod it for more HP 4. Toyota Supra If I were substantially better off financially I'd like to add: 1. Porsche Carrera GT or a Ford GT 2. Audi R8 or the new NSX if I had a little less money
