I may have gotten a lucky break - I called the service department and for my car they show the production date as Feb 08

i dont understand why you just cant purchase an additional ecu that has the chip on it and then swap out the original one. it shouldnt be able to tell if it was removed or not.

****DO NOT GO TO YOUR DEALER WITH A TUNE INSTALLED AND OR ADMIT TO HAVING ANY TUNE**** You will open yourself up to having your power train warranty voided. I would not go in with DP's either. -jm2c
SSTT does not get detected by 29.2 (flashed to MSD80) or MSD81 DME http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140788 Here are some another good posts where many of the tuners weight in on all tunes: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139418 *Shiv's 1st post pretty much sums it up as to what's going on. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142298 There is a HUGE amount of miss information being spread about. Most of it is tin foil hat info. FACTS: 1. BMW has changed ECU's from V80 to V81 in post March builds. This ECU has different CARB code (not tuner related) as well as 4 (what has been seen by tuners) counter measures that record data for piggy back tunes (JB/Proceed/AA and so on). SSTT does not run outside the ECUs parameters and isn't being logged. The ECU is still controlling all the cars operations with SSTT. 2. 29.2 is being flashed to V80 ECU's (CARB again) and it seems to have the V81 code as well. I have personally talked to Jeff about both of these measures and how it would affect pre/post March builds as well as 29.2 flashes. He has said that in his BMW FASTA (he's tested hooked to their computers at dealer) tested that SSTT does not show up in V80, V81 or V80 w/29.2. HOW IT WORKS |

I think it's important to note that SSTT, JB1 or JB2 may not be detected on a stock car, however, adding a CAI or exhaust along with one of these tunes could very well throw a code.

Better check to make sure!
My car was built FEB, 08. It has V81! Do not assume you have the old version because of early build dates...
WRONG...Thats right ...I was Wrong :iono:,I do have V80...I used the menu and gained info through that search that was wrong. Sorry If that messed anyone up.....only way to know for sure is the label on the ECU |

From Terry himself. I've asked Eurobahn repeatedly in other posts but they never reponded to this direct question. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=14 JB3, V3 & Shark Edit seems to be the answer but they're all under development currently. |

nice write up 0002s... shiv at vishnu and the Dinan are in a race to develop a work around. first one to the finish will make a boatload of money.
I have 1 question. If BMW can now detect a modified car, and a person leasing the car has a piggyback or flash, what does BMW do at lease end?

My main reason for considering the 135i was because I could get a Dinan tune that effectively protected my warranty. Without that or some alternative from BMW I don't think I'm going to buy a 135i.

We found out that I do have the V81 and need to wait for it as well, and getting it for my car is just one more reason they're after the solution.

... how would this cause a code to get thrown if I never go out of stock parameters?

pardon the noob question, but what's the best/most accurate way to find out your car's build date? there must be some sticker/ID somewhere, right?
EDIT: i saw a post about an ecu sticker...so V8.0 = pre 3/08 build & V8.1 = post 3/08 build, correct? anyone have a picture?
