Brisbane Guys: What do we think of GT Auto Garage for installation?

You can probably afford to buy parts + labor from bmroxm5 + airfare/petrol to qld for him and still be cheaper than other local places.

springs

Hi
Why dont you do it correctly and just put in some coilovers.
For the new BC system fitted and set up those guys at Advan will do the whole
deal for $1995 Total. Springs were done years ago, if the spring rate is to hard the shock will not cope and the car will just bounce around like a 20 year old nuget, spend your money on stuff that works.

I was strongly recommended to not install coil overs by a number of suspension experts and 2 well know racing car drivers unless I was using the car mainly for the track. They suggested that it the ride quality would be unbearable as a daily driver.

I can tell you that at default settings, my KW v3s ride is more comfortable than my Eibach+Koni setup.

They all agreed that the coilovers would improve the handling and would be beneficial for the track however since the I won't be tracking it too often they would be over kill. Haven't ruled it out yet.

The ride is just fine with coilovers. Of course you won't use them to their potential on the street, but that's not the only reason people buy them for street cars. It's the best way to lower the vehicle to get the look you want while maintaining good ride quality.

Circuit racers are elitist pricks the world around. Don't listen to them! Do whatever you want to your car.

+1 to ride quality being fine on my V1.

One of the main reason I went with V1 is so I can adjust the height compare to a spring and shock combo.

Coilovers might possibly be overkill in terms of handling, but as for ride quality, coilovers doesn't necessarily mean shit ride quality, as stated above many people have switched to coilovers and found them to be very liveable/comfortable.

Coilovers are fully adjustable to the point where you can have it softer than stock. There are so many combinations where you can fine tune your setup but most people set it and leave it because access to the top of the struts is blocked by the strut bar in the engine bay and carpet in the boot. The increase in handling is day/night over comfort anyway, the ride is firm but forgiving. You feel bumps in the road but you feel more connected, everything feels tighter and combined with this chassis, its really easy to throw it into corners even if you're a novice like me. I recommend it even if it's only your DD.

Have just been quoted $400 for installation and front/rear alignment... This seems rather high to me...

Depends on the quality of the alignment, I paid $114 for my alignment from Spinning Wheels in Sydney/Alexandria, so as long as the install place is of as high calibre as SW then it's not tooo bad...

otherwise offer them $250-300 without the alignment and only get the alignment IF needed... in my experience after lowering a car they have tracked pretty straight.

Have a chat to Justin at Midas Tingalpa on Wynnum Rd. He recently fitted my KWs & LSD. He'll tell you the best place to get a good four wheel alignment too. Tell him Tim said he'd look after you.
