No news on the SD card. I called Road Atlanta the next morning and they took my name and number as they were cleaning the paddock that afternoon. I described where it could have been but no call back. I am going by the track this weekend so I am going to stop at the gas station where I believe it fell out of my pocket so fingers crossed someone was honest and left it with them. I found the gas station on google maps but the number is disconnected. I do have the next best thing to video. Not the same but...

Yeah, but compare the same corner in the race car. These were taken during a race that I was really pushing hard in. The 1M soaked up the curbing like an old mercedes and was barely noticeable.
Look at the 4th pic in the group. The front tires are almost off the ground. If he had taken more under the bridge you would likely see the back tires with some light coming through beneath them. I got some good rear wheel slip here but I suppose the timing had to be just right to see it.

Thanks for the pics Dan...i cant wait to get my 1M and do a drivers school back at RA.
Pic #6 is great. During the Petit Leman back in 2000 (i think it was the year 2000 or maybe 01) i saw Paul Newman put his 911 in that sand trap in the first lap...same year that Bill Auberlin flipped his LMP on the back straight. There was a club event there that year and Hans Stuck was with the M brand manager showing us the New E46 M3. That is one stiff E36!!!! |

Great Pics! Henry is the best with the lens.
I happy to see someone else wring out the 1M. By the looks of some of the pics, you were flying around the track. Other thread got locked due to too many children. Enjoy your new ride and AW is the color I would have picked as well.

Dan -
Wonderful shots! There as a M Performance driving school packing up at VIR this past Wednesday evening just as a a group of us were arriving for a drivers school. They had 4 1Ms with them -- inaddition to M3s and M5s -- and word had it that there had been no limp home problems with the 1Ms. And Wednesday was a hot day at VIR. Neil |

Hardly surprising about heat soak. A big FMIC may be my first modification for my 1M. And there are, of course, other steps that could be taken to minimize its incidence. Most of us on the track (VIR Full) the past two days -- na and fi alike -- were slower in the high afternoon heat 'cause we were down on power. Neil |

I did some segment analysis on traqmate's software and from session 2, 3, and 4 the power seemed to remain the same. I made each straight it's own segment and the velocity vs. distance graphs show it was consistent on the straights. My theoretical best lap in the 2nd session was 141.442 while in the last session it was almost exactly a second slower at 142.450. I threw out session 1 because I did most of it with MDM on and antifreeze got laid down at some point so my lap times were crap. I felt really uncomfortable getting a good seating position because the race car seat is practically on the floor and I'm not use to no harnesses. When looking at the segments in sessions 2 and 4 it was in the corners where I was faster in the morning (cooler temps?) while the straights remained mostly the same. This tells me the power output was consistent all day while the tires didn't have the grip in the afternoon that they did in the morning session. I could have been pushing the car a little harder in the afternoon which made the tires go off but I also got more comfortable in the car as the day progressed so you would think that the times would have progressively improved but the heat neutered that. It's hard to say exactly but my point is this data seems to show that power down the straights was consistent so even though the ambient temperature rose about 15 degrees from session 2 to 4 the cars power stayed consistent. It isn't from any butt dyno but accurate data.
Here are my images of my lap times in session 2 and then session 4. TBL = Theoretical Best Lap (If you don't know the software looks at all your segments for the session and takes the best one to come up with the TBL. This tells you if you are consistent and making the most out of each corner entry, exit, etc)

Hey DP, sorry if I haven't seen this in a previous post but... your exhaust tips are black. How did you do this? is it painted or something? Thanks so much for the track data, its going to be helpful for a track noob as me. Any specific driving advice about the 1m?
