our older cameras take shots frome the rear
- but german drivers can not be prosecuted for speeding in austria if they only have a photo from the rear where you can not see the driver... - so they set up new cameras (which i found out the hard way driving back from nauders with 135junky last year) - that take the photos from the front they look kinda like small traffic lights mostly green - i think you can see them in the stelvio thread where 135junky posted the picture of me getting blitzed and btw. tickets are supposed to be double the price this year in austria! (they gotta do something for the budged - come to think of that our ridiculous councelor has almost the same income (!) than the president of the US )

Rick - I have seen those kind of "radar boxes" in Italy and France too. They are effective bc you can not tell if the box HAS a camera until after you pass them! They take the pic from the rear. In Italy almost every village has these "boxes" in the Tuscany area, when you enter the village and when you exit the village. I have even seen these portable radar camera's built into garbage cans!! (see last pic!)

and some more Blitzer pics...
These pole Blitzers can take your pic coming AND going from the "pole". Also cross as many as four lanes of traffic!! Berlin.... These are mostly used in NRW and the Leipzig areas. I know there is one of these on the A9 in Leipzig in the 100 kph zone under a bridge over pass!!! I've seen this type in Austria and in Germany on the A7 (Fulda & Kassel) and A4 near Essen. BLACK Blitzer inside tunnels in Munich(and other cities). You do not see the camera flash at all!!! Garbage can/box Blitzer... (silver box)

Some more recent pics...
YELLOW village sign also means the speed limit is now 50 kph instead of 100 kph outside village/city limits.

Recent Blitzer pics from Viereth-Trunstadt a suburb of Bamberg...
Blitzer flasher on driver's sunvisor... Radar antenna mounted above license plate... 30 kph here... A73 Autobahn near A70 intersection. Abstand Blitzer aka tail gating cameras... You need to have half your speed (kph) in meters of safe distance! ...at 130 kph you need at least 65meters of "safe" distance. There is a third camera bellow mounted on the middle guard rail to snap a pic of the driver! They use a combo of video AND still pics. Ask me how I know this. lol

Tail gating cameras on the A73 autobahn direction Breitengüßbach (Coburg/Suhl) just after the A70 autobahn crossing... video cameras clip on autobahn bridge railing... camera bellow to take driver's picture!! 130 kph zone... so you must have 65 meters "abstand" or distance to the car in front. NOTE - each white dashed line is 9m apart. Every white marker is spaced at 50m... You can JUST make out the clip on cameras on the bridge railing... ! Say CHEESE!!! die Bullen in their Polizei van...

For the folks in the Stuttgart Area:
There are apparently a few new permanently installed speedcams on the A8: - direction of Karlsruhe -> Stuttgart, right after the exit "Leonberg Ost" (right after theA81 joins it) - same direction, right before the exit of Möhringen just infront of the bridge - direction Munich -> Stuttgart, before the Flughafen exit, not sure where exactly here. They're probably linked to the adaptive speedlimit crap, so be careful.

Linked to conditions. Prior to the big A8 baustelle the unrestricted section began and ended just east of the airport. Now depending on traffic it can change heading east all the way back to B27 merge.
Cheers!

Yep noticed the strips in the pavement then looked up and saw the cameras mounted on poles. Right side of lane just before the Murhringen exit.

Hey evolution80, I still remember that day. The good new for me was that I never got a ticket. Just like that one day where I passed 3 tucks at once on a bundesstraße and the polizei was lasering, got me at 142 kmh. Never heard from them.

Yep we have all been solicited in the mail for our non-taxdeductible contribution to German Economy.
I dont know of anyone personally who has been pulled over and payment of fine demanded on the spot.
