There is no going back. If you want a real performance car with hydraulic steering and a manual transmission, anything bigger than a tiny 2 seater, your only choice in a couple of years will be a Subaru STi, unless Subaru decides to stop making the car like that, in which case you will have zero choices.

M2 holds Zero attraction. I'm not a fan of the current designer preferring the 1M Bangle esque designs much more. 1M all day long. I'll never own a M2.

The real question is whether anyone will make a performance car bigger than a tiny 2 seater, with hydraulic steering and a manual transmission. If Subaru does not a few years hence, then no one else will, either. I stand by that prediction. |

I like the looks of the M2 but even though my 1M has been gone now for 4 months I would still take a 1M over the 2. Like someone else said I too didn't get the "wow" factor at unveiling as I did when the 1M was revealed.

I the M is a great car. the M2 is a great car. the 1M looks good. the M2 i think looks more modern. however, it doesnt have a story. the 1M was an experiment. the M2 is a step in the right direction. meaning, its the right size and power. its the right price and has lots of potential. the M3/4 to me is getting too big and not performance oriented enough. however i wanted the M2 to have a more distinctive body.
i love my 1M. but if i sell it, it won't be for a M2 but a GT4.

I too love the rear of the 1M. Everytime i walk to the car and see the rear it just looks special and menacing. In my opinion i think the 1M is one of the most distinctive M car around.
The M2 front is nice, the rear does not look in proportion to me. That being said, if i did not have a 1M, i would buy the M2 |

I like the looks of this M2, and if I wasn't still smitten with the 1M I would be going down the M2 path. The difference being of the 2 though, the 1M appearance / style looks as if a big risk was taken, keep the numbers low, throw at it all that we have sitting on the shelf (a Frankenstein, keeping development time and costs low) and see what happens, big gamble that paid off nicely, and that is what we see and love in the 1M..... On the other hand, the M2 has that more throughout conservative appearance, much more prim and proper (more suit like than work coveralls) with a greater calculated thought process involved, plus added development time. A proper production car in build numbers to recoup development costs and make a profit.

When I see the M2---it looks like a t-shirt that says "Armani" on it in really big writing; it knows what it is and what it's supposed to be.....whereas the 1M had no idea what it was supposed to be.....but was always interesting and thinking outside the box!! similar to this comparison! i just told my bmw dealer that i wont buy one because of the missing ///M mirror insolence
and i dont like the rear very much but mineral grey is a great color - and the car sure will be a performer - and fun to drive - so congrats to everyone who gets one

I'm first on the list at BMW Portland and as soon as I get back from China, I'm going to talk to them about moving off the list or over to the rumored CSL variant.
A long time ago, I said something about the 1M to the effect that people would look at the car in the future and remark "This is the one. The one that started it all." Now I may be waxing a bit sentimental on that one, but the only thing I could think of when I saw the M2 was "eh?" and then "meh." It's a competently executed and undoubtedly fast and fun car but it just isn't giving me the wow factor. Maybe I just need to drive it. I sure won't buy it sight unseen. I just don't think the ownership experience will be as exclusive or special as the 1M. When's the last time you were in an enthusiast group that determined everybody's production number? When's the last time you bought a car and the company created a custom polo shirt? No friends, I won't be buying an M2 quite yet. I may change my tune in 2016 when I retire my 1M to garage-queen status but I am not in a rush. I will go 6MT in white or gray. Oh...an if any of you guys are in Shanghi or HKG, I'm on the mainland until the 27th and back to HKG on Nov 3rd for a week. I'd love to see your rides! |

It is ugly.....and a 'marketing' car. The 1M is a driver's car, for driving pleasure. I really like that spartan interior, naked from useless things...... Of course my VO is a keeper. |

I think they both look amazing. It's really hard to chose between the two. Right now the m4 is my favorite M car but I'm really loving the M2.
