Glad it wasn't the HPFP Mechy. To my knowledge that would have been the first one of us 1Addicts that has reported a 943 failure.

I hate having to bring back this thread, but I got an engine malfunction light today again
It happened at the worse moment possible, while I was turning right and going onto a main road the car just craps out on me and dies. I try frantically to turn it on hoping no cars come. After about the 3rd try it starts but runs like crap. I was lucky that there wasn't any traffic on an otherwise busy road. I'm taking it in for service tomorrow. It's running better now but the engine malfunction light is still on (even after multiple restarts). I'm still on my first fuel pump. Last time I had this problem they just updated the software.

Shit! thats it, I have decided to lay my plans to buy a BMW to rest.I feel sorry for you guys.I know they make fun cars but all these issues and the way BMW handles them is infuriating for an outsider like me.I pray for patience in abundance for all the owners.Good luck,I'll hang around as i always dreamt to own a nice sporty car.Do these problems plague the 128i too?

Update on this. I haven't gotten my car back yet but my SA said that they have installed a new HPFP. Here's what she said and I would take it with a grain of salt as I don't know how accurate it is. She said that this is the latest fuel pump and BMW has fixed all the issues with the previous pumps. That the previous pump had something like 7 issues/design flaws. BMW also apparently changed the manufacturer of the pump. I will ask her tomorrow for the pump's serial #. In the meantime I'm driving a 535i
At least they gave me a nice loaner.

Small update. I got my car back today with a new fuel pump. She showed me the model # and it didn't look anything like the model numbers I've seen on this board. Anyone know anything about a new model for the fuel pump coming out?
PS: Ironically, the 535i loaner I had was showing long cranks, LOL. Edit: Sorry, just checked the invoice, the pump ends in 943, so that's the same pump I've seen other members get.

Wow... This just happened to me on Saturday. Been having the long cranks when the engine is cold, then yesterday I go the Engine Malfunction reduced lawyer warning and my car got really bad shakes! I did not even start it today, but will bring it to my dealer tomorrow morning first thing. This board and thread has given me some good insights into this issue.

Okay, to follow up on my posting. BMW has decided to replace the HPFP and i may get the car back either tomorrow night or the next day. I am worried that this problem is not very well understood by BMW. I would consider getting another BMW but this fuel pump I think is used in. The 3 and the 5 series as well! BMW Must fix this problem!
Oh one more thing, my 135i is stock.
