Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA has the leading transportation design program in North America, while Royal College of Art in London being the #1 in Europe. There are lots of other areas that you can study in transportation design, not just car design.
I'm a current 3rd year undergraduate at ArtCenter. Let me tell you that the transportation design program is not a joke, nor is any other program. We're talking like 4-8 students in that major in any given school semester.

Hey keep it up dude. I went to the Academy of Art University for transportation design. I think only if you are in it will you know how competitive and stressful it is. Those pictures of clay brings back the memories and the smells!

I was offered a job at Mitsubishi to be an Alias monkey (cad modeler) but I really wanted to be a disigner. I ended up doing product design instead. Not as glamorous but it at least I can design.

Its nice to see all you guys interested in desgn, its not a thing that is talked about too often!

Joji Nagashima: E36 3 series, Z3, E39 5 series

Boyke Boyer: E38 7 series

Klaus Kapitza: E31 8 series

Geoff Velasco: X3 (Designworks)

Chris Chapman: X5 (Designworks)

Anders Warming: Z4 (Designworks)

Henrik Fisker: Z8 (now with Aston)

Kevin Rice: new 1 series

Erik Goplen: E46 3 series (Designworks/USA)

David Arcangeli: E60 5 series
E87 1-series was penned by Chris Chapman, but Kevin Rice was a design team / project leader.

E60 5-series was penned by Davide Arcangeli, a former Pininfarina designer who penned Peogeout 406 Coupe. Arcanglei pasted awy due to leukemia before E60 design was realized in metal.

E64/5 6-series and E65/6 was penned by Adrian van Hooydonk, now design chief of BMW brand

Regarding the E90 rearlights: the design was changed last minute when an engineer from a company developing E90 rearlight informed BMW E90 project team that VAG / Audi had very similar design of rearlight already in production process. The cluster design was changed and also decided CELIS LED strips to be incorporated - original version was w/o them. It was the original idea to connect E90 to Z4 with similar rearlight cluster design, but VAG / Audi spoiled it.

Audi sucks. Had they stuck w/ that original idea that would have looked pretty cool. Now if someone could photoshop the original(proposed) tail ights.

530i sport package wheels seems good on the E90. I wonder it will fit?

Awesome pictures

It is amazing to see those pictures about the design process, it would be very exciting to watch these guys work in these models. Maybe we would get along with Mr. Nagashima very well, I tend to like his designs more than the others, since I had an e39 (awesome car) and updated to an e90, both designed by him basically...so maybe it would be interesting to grab a beer and talk about cars with this gentleman.
