You can go N5tuner fronts for a bit more play room on stock bumper/side skirts or go full OE 1M front for even more space. Rears need flares either way.

As for the oil these cars are known to run hot you just have to change the oil t-stat add some coolers/oil and hope for the best. Running straight water and setting fans to always on can help too.

I used a breaker bar, I tried to roll it but ended up using the breaker bar like a crow bar...

I think this is stock with 285 just a wider front is needed, Im leaning towards the 1M conversion the look good

Gravel lots are wonderful things (unless you are paint). They're great for testing squeaks and rattles, great for testing suspension clunks, really great for testing sideways motion characteristics and the ability of the car to make clouds of dust

My car needs a bath. Again.

You can run 255s with stock front fenders. Just need camber plates. My track wheels are 255 square.

Zero rubbing? With what camber and offset?

I am running the ET42 17x9 ARC-8s with 255/40 Ventus RS4s. I have 5mm spacers in front so effective offset is 37mm and 3mm spacers in rear so effective offset of 39mm. Please note that I have 3 series hubs in the rear so this provides me with an extra 10mm of reduced offset per side which allows me to run the same rims front and back. Without this mod you would need around a 49/50 offset for the rear. 18s with 35 series should be the same.

I needed to use the 5mm in front to clear my coilovers as the collars sit low and are close to the tire. Other shock setups may allow you to have the wheel push in even further.

Sorry, I am not sure what the camber is in front. I had the alignment done at a shop that is very experienced with race setups. It is a little aggressive but the car is still primarily a street car so not too crazy. The second picture doesn't quite show it but there is a definite tilt to the wheel when looking at it head on.

I have no rubbing issues.

I chose this setup after seeing this guys setup:

Noting the post date for the guy with the 285s the offset would have definitely been 62. Apex offered a 58 only a few years ago.

Basically, for my street car running track days, i should aim for 17x8.5 or 17x9 wheels and wrap them with 255/40/17s all round would be better than 18x8s and 235 due to a wider footprint?

And replacement tires are more affordable in 17s.

I just checked locally, the 255/40/17s are priced the same as the 235/40/18s

At least from the same shop.

When the time comes, i will start asking more detailed questions, tracks are closing this month and i will be busy moving anyways. So only small things like M3 arms, RSFBs, sway bars and LSD will be done this year.

Lets see if i can get some seats and wheels/tires by March 2019, fingers crossed.

This isn't necessarily true. I just changed to 18s and did so because the tire selection in 235 was better in terms of variety of compounds and the prices for 18s were either equivalent or cheaper than the prices for 17s. Depends on what size you're looking at.

Right.
It's the same (at least my MFactory unit, built at home with a 325i diff) price as a mid-range set of coilovers or a nice shock/spring combo.

But I really think it made the biggest difference in the way my car feels; it feels much more raw and mechanical, but in a playful, fun way. It was at the expense of some refinement, though...

On a separate note, I found another thing gravel lots are good for; headlight adjusting, and more sideways motion testing and dust cloud generation.

I know right?

All the parts i am doing this winter are hidden, no one will be able to tell what has been changed or done...hence the term "small things"

When it comes to wheels, tires, seats and brakes...those are "big things".

Already found an official Quaife importer in Germany, offered me a good price including installation for the LSD.

Been leaking power steering for the past couple weeks. Finally got time to check it out.

Started at noon. I jacked the car up and was able to locate the leak(failed/missing crush washer in photo) dropped the car back down, drove to the local BMW dealership and picked up some new washers for $4 and headed home. I Ate lunch. Jacked the car back up, got everything undone. Replaced the washers and dropped the car. Topped off/refilled the reservoir and ran in through the cycle and finished around 5pm.

Pretty amazing when you can locate a leak, get parts and fix it all in one day without any problems at all.

Love it! People under-estimate the utility of a tiny 4-seater convertible.

I've brought home a 3 metre (~10ft) playground slide, a 20" (wheel size) childrens bike, and a 55" TV in the back of mine. [edit: not at the same time]

I never get over the "o... kay..." look you get from people when you walk up to your car holding something that size and begin to load it into the back.
