So, after seeing the post about the console tray swap, decided to do the same. The e88 I purchase had the smokers package which I found pretty worthless, but it did have the extra power outlet.
Purchased the factory tray from ECS.... Found several videos on line about removing the console, but it failed to go over the nuances of how the electrical plugs connect. Broke one pretty badly, just couldn't figure it out. It's also interesting that you have to remove the whole console on the e8x to get to the tray, but on the e9x, you just have to remove the top part of the console. Go figure... Anyway, 3 bolts, 4 nuts, hidden screws and a bit of time and frustration later, I got the console out and made the swap. I wanted to relocate the plug, but ran out of time and the strained back was talking to my saying it was time to pack it in. At least the plug is in easy reach under the iDrive, so I do have the option of relocating at a later date. I have to say, I really like having this extra catch tray for glasses and phone. The small smokers ash tray was really of no storage value. I like this much better.... Last edited by olds350; 02-03-2019 at 09:55 AM.. |

After the paint cured, I added the clear. Wheels look good, especially with the center caps and valve caps.

Home depot...
Might be different, but looks a lot like a garage door seal in a fancy package... Edit to add: I don't mean it in a bad way, this has been a popular inexpensive lip for years, easy to install and fairly durable at a low cost.

https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1040106 The poster for All-Fit calls ez-lip "ez rip." lol Don't think I'd be too interested in either one, but for around $30 there's not much to lose. |

Yeah, did a quick search and that thread popped up. The guy who posted about All-Fit has only one post on the forum (and his name is AllFit), so he obviously came here to sell his product and criticize ez-lip. Also, don't really know for sure what is getting ripped in the video.

I coded out TPMS but haven't yet turned on FTM. I plan on doing a short DIY once I get FTM figured out.
Last week I also painted a set of remanufactured calipers with G2 paint. It's not that robust and I can see why people recommend powdercoat over paint. I chipped off a few spots just installing them. My main goal here was preventing rust, so I used high-temp clear over the chips and it's good enough for me. If I were doing this again though, I'd probably find a local powdercoater, or go with multi-piston painted calipers from a different model. It adds a nice splash of color to my otherwise boring-looking car and the chips aren't visible unless you're up close inspecting the calipers so I'm pretty happy. I also made an upgraded set of ramps, since my floor jack doesn't reach the front jack point with the car being so low. I previously made ramps that did not include chocks, and I had the car roll back recently as I was lifting up the rear wheels. The new ramps are long enough to let me chock the front wheels before lifting the rears, which solved that issue. |

I might, even though I have a few cans of Duplicolor Super Silver and clear on hand.

Swapped out my stock rear differiential for an auto with a 3:73 that had about 20K miles on it. Put in New fluid, and gave it a test run.
Obviously I didn't beat on it, but can tell it will be a nice improvement. Also.....like previous posters have said, this really is a two person job. I was stubborn and didn't want to wait....so it took me forever with having to continuously come out from under the car to drop the brake and put it in/out of gear to rotate everything for access to the bolts. But I feel it will be worth it! |

Tried and failed at wrapping my sunroof delete panel. Bubbles, creases, you name it, I failed at it. Whatever, it works for now.
Tried and failed at wrapping my headlights with protective film. The wrap wasn't flexible enough for the super large and curvy headlights. And the stupid stuff is super expensive...ugh I can rebuild suspension, build a differential, and do pretty much anything mechanical, but I can't seem to do anything on the cosmetic side of things to much success. A frustrating day it's been...
