From JIC Cross...
This is Bryan at JIC I handle all the Tech and RMA problems. I have been following the thread on 1addicts.com since you brought it to our attention. Can you please quote this on the thread as a direct response from us here at JIC. On an inverted monotube damper there is an internal bump stop rubber preventing the damper from bottoming out and damaging the piston. On a 1 series we designed the suspension to appeal to the average user, on stock 1 series BMW sets up the car to basically ride on the bump stop all the time so you get the sporty stiff compression feel but still retain a lot of rebound stroke. On the 1 series front struts you have about 4 inches of stroke in the damper, initial setup is designed so you have approximately 2 inches of stroke on both rebound and compression. If you feel that this setup is not working for you because you drive the car more aggressively we offer custom valuing and spring rates to meet your specific needs. This is an off the shelf item that is designed to work for the general masses for this reason we do have the ability to do custom setups. The sound that you are hearing is not the strut actually bottoming out but excessive road noise transmitted through the strut because of the way BMW suspension design is there is a direct translation of road sound to the chassis. Thanks. Bryan Rogers JIC-Magic USA/Ziel Sports 2007 W Mission Rd. Alhambra, CA 91803 (626) 576-0900- Tel (626) 576-0160- Fax www.jic-magic.com www.cross-na.com |

JIC,
Why does the sound appear less and less the stiffer i go? Doesnt sound like road noise to me. Why do my spring coils touch? I have no problem with the set up on the track, i don't bottom out while running hard, i bottom out while casually driving on the streets of ny/nj. |
