First link for the shocks was at $830 and included springs, and the front springs are $100 each, rears are $107 each. That's close to a set of B14 coils, but was the point to keep ride comfort better than coils?
Can one get the shocks for less $ without the springs in anyone's experience? |

Sold them, the Eibach pro-kit. Way too low for the roads in my area

B6's aren't designed for lowering springs. For anyone wanting to run Bilstein dampers with factory M Sport, BMW Performance, Eibach lowering springs or anything lower, you want to run the B8 Performance Plus which was built to cope with less travel.

Thanks man, I should have mentioned that. I gave both options since he was asking about doing his own spring combo, and since that could mean a stock-height option the B6s would be good for that. But yes anything lower than stock you should be looking at the B8's

I ordered Koni sports just to avoid getting it wrong. My sports springs sat the car a bit high as I think they were for a similarly optioned 135i. (I since decided to buy BMWP springs so the discussion is now academic for me.) I've tried to figure out thru all the discussion on B6 vs B8 and I think it comes down to the internal bumpstops.

As far as the B6 / B8 debate goes, the dampers used to be marketed as HD and Sport respectively as opposed to the current Performance and Performance Plus names, with the latter being intended for use with lowering springs. The current descriptions on cart.BilsteinUS.com explain it decently well, but it should be clearer, and I've also heard the same conflicting information from people contacting Bilstein as you have. |

My question is will the setup below rub/hit IYO?
Edit: I have square setup on 245/40-17 RE-71R on DForce 41mm offsets. Dinan camber plates and the car has the SUV look. I know suspension is the next step. I do about 10 autocross events and a couple HPDE per year. Tire Rack doesn't offer the B12 Pro kit because they say my car is after the 9/10 build date. It must remain a street car which occasionally does events. I will not "screw it up". (I had a MINI that would shake the fillings out of your teeth) P.S. Going to do the M3 RSF bushings and an LSD here soon. Regards, -Jim Last edited by Luftmeister; 04-25-2018 at 04:01 PM.. |

Do you have a link for that Koni setup? Based on my tire width I'm concerned about too much of a drop because of rub. Roads by me are "ok" and I don't run the 245 daily. I used 225f/255r on stockers. Based on what Matt said, 1.2" seems too low. :/ |

Koni kit for 135i E82: 1145-1018
http://www.koni-na.com/en-US/NorthAm...=521&mk=6&mt=1 (They also have kits for E88, and with Street dampers.) I can't speak to rub on that one, but I run the Koni Sport struts & shocks with Swift Spec-R springs, Dinan camber plates, and 12mm spacers up front (which I don't believe are necessary with this setup, but I like the additional front track.) You don't mention the aspect ratio on your 17" tires. With 225/40-18 F and 245/35-18 Rear MPSS (stock wheels) clearance is not an issue. (With 12mm spacers on the rear, it was. Had some fender-well rubbing over bumps and in turns.)

Questions, Questions, Questions, & More Questions?

I have a Mercedes with the Mercedes Sport-Package. The Sports-Pkg lowers the car about 0.5" from the stock ride height. I checked with Bilstein what was the correct strut for it. They said the B8 was correct. At the same time, I examined the specs for the B6 and B8 and noted the body of the B8 was slightly shorter than the B6. What people might not realize is a car can be lowered by a shorter strut and/or shorter spring. Also if I had installed the B6 in my car instead of the B8, the installation would have raised the height of my car. In any case, I would put the B8s on my M-Sport Pkg and use the M-Sport Springs. As a check, I'd measure the strut length of both the stock and B8 to check they were essentially the same. |

Can you tell me what springs you have (either part # or T# is fine) and how your car is optioned? I see you are N55 with DCT, but what about sunroof, nav, power seats, etc

I believe Bilstein is just accommodating the manufacturer's specs. In my Mercedes, the drop is accomplished by the shorter strut body. The reason is the same springs can be used in all models of the vehicle. I base this on the observation that the fender gap is smaller on the front than the back while the stock configuration the rear gaps are the same and the fronts differ by around 0.5". Of course, this is all based upon some conjecture. |

I'm probably overthinking this, but, my car may be at the edge of needing the next step up so I'll end up with more drop than most people have experienced.
