I like the inside. Plastics, controls and switchgear seem to be on par with current BMW and MB products and only lag Audi. The screen at least appears to be from this decade. I'm always amazed at how our two year old F30 appears to have a screen from a Commodore 64.
But I am a Cowboy fan, so take that into consideration. The outside is awful. Like a Model S that was pushed front to back and got shorter but taller. |

Love is certainly overselling it, but it's functional and clean. It absolutely needs a HUD, but that's all I'd really change.
Too many cars, like the last gen Porsche are just littered with buttons, dials and such that unless you own the car and drive it daily, you'll never sort out what's where. Now I will say that one real weakness of any Tesla is the lack of support for Apple CarPlay. I've gotten used to it in both of our cars and would strongly dislike moving to a car without it. |

Here's a great example, BMW decided to make you press the power button twice to fully shutoff the car. We've had this thing two plus years and I probably get it wrong three out of four times. I'm lobbying for anything other than a BMW/Mini because of this stupidity. And Cue sucks. So do their engines and transmissions. Oh, and the ATS-V cluster. Great chassis in need of everything else. |

From the few Model 3's I've been in, I will say that panel gap and alignment is certainly sub standard, but the actual quality of plastics, leather, wood and carpeting seem on par or slightly nicer than what MB and BMW use on the C and 3er. |

I don't like our F30 either. I've driven both extensively as we own one and a friend had the ATS-V. |

If you've actually used CUE and the latest MMI, you'd understand. The Tesla interface is somewhere in between but closer to Audi. |

That interior is simply not befitting a car that is $50-70k... and I love minimalist design. Cheap looking materials + minimalist design just doesn't separate me from my money.

What if they installed a bunch of knobs and buttons that don’t do anything? Would that satisfy your interior demands?

Maybe a few blank switches to remind you that you're a cheap bastard? Mix in some goofy things like "coolant gauges" that just read one temp and don't actually display a temperature, even when you have an actual thermostat.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I'd love to see an IIHS crash test of the Model 3. I can see instances of serious hand damage due to the proximity of the screen to the steering wheel.

My E30 had 3 blank switch panels. I used one to graft in a female RJ11 jack for my Valentine One. I used the other to install a red blinking LED for my fake alarm system. Blank switch plates do come in handy

Never been concerned with having an actual numerical temp reading because I'm not really sure if it is relevant to any operational decision making. Engine oil temp, ah, who cares?
