No no. He cannot put Ford badges on there because it's not a Ford.

That's only commenting from a money perspective and my own priorities. People have different goAls with their projects and different uses with their cars. |

You guys are a joke. You first have to understand why some 1M owners are a little defensive when it comes to copying or having imitation products.
Let's look at it this way.. a 'Coach handbag' may be of similiar or even higher quality to that of an LV, let alone justifying the LV's cost, but no matter what you do to the Coach bag it'll never turn into an LV. So trying to copy the 1M's looks and justifying it with similarity claims is no different than buying a fake LV knockoff. And for performance claims.. I always hear stuff like "oh, just modify a 335i and it'll be faster than an M3 E92".. or "135i after a tune produces similiar power gains to the 1M". But what they seem to forget is the other car can be modified too. Apples to apples, on the DMS tune website, the 1M get 411+hp while the 135i only 370hp. I'm guessing the difference is due to the larger intercooler, 2nd radiator + oil cooler. The tuner actually takes into account the reliability of engine as well. Hell, I'm certain someone out there could make a VW beetle faster than some supercars. Make of it what you will, but fake stuff are like fake people |

Some just enjoy the build process. It makes the car more emotionally attached to them. It's clearly hurting no one or the 1M's market value. Some consider the 1M to be a fake due to it not having a M specific engine. Does that resonate with you? Are you a fake? Something to think about before being harsh towards others and their builds. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Nice necropost. Clearly don't know much about the engine in your car either. Pretty funny.

hmm...an old thread.
am not a fan of these fake 1Ms either.....UNLESS its done with the dynamic consideration and care of a real 1M like Marco's for example....which is amazing. There are a couple other good conversions here too...BUT they all have one thing in common; they have the changes UNDERNEATH too and not just the cosmetics. The cosmetic stuff is no better than those old 2002s which had tacked on fenders from the 2002 Turbo.......they lose the charm of the 135i and instead gain the stigma of a 'fake' car......as a former 135 driver i don't really get it......but then again the 'tuner' culture in the US has created this mess of 'fakeness' everywhere. the 1M's "cosmetic" differences are all FUNCTIONAL. They are due to different E9X M3 parts being in different places....they are due to different subframes and coolers and hubs and brakes...etc...it's not the other way around. To me it's ridiculous when people do the cosmetic 1M changes without any consideration to the actual functional changes underneath. buy the car you want in the first place....and you won't get into this mess, IMO. the 135 is such a great car.....i had one before and wouldn't have changed the looks at all. loved it..... |

IEDEI It's just a body style. I think if BMW had made more than 740 of them for sale in the US, there wouldn't be as many cosmetically converted 135i's. For example, I can't justify paying original MSRP for a car with 30k miles on it. The rest of the parts underneath are pretty minor. The majority of the difference is suspension arm weight, with a couple of them having bearings in one end, the front LCA, rear lower camber link and rear toe arms being the only ones with different geometry as a whole, which in the rear was essentially only a function of the necessity of the rear M3 subframe so they could use the M diff.
Folks grafting OEM BMW 1M panels to their existing 1er has very little in common with the others who are putting fake M styled bumpers on their cars.

The beauty of the 1M in my eyes is the deliberate disregard for performance numbers and the total free design vision of the BMW engineers while they scrabbled through a box of E82 135i parts and a box of E90 M3 parts to make their dream raw fun drivers car a reality. So given that the beauty of the 1M is a raw feeling, or rather a tangible emotion, I have no issue with folks trying to snag bits of that beauty for their non-M 1er. That is what being an auto enthusiast is all about. I haven't seen a poorly done conversion yet. They have all been done out of the same love of design and driving that those original BMW engineers started Project Pyrat in the first place. And not one of them has had a ///M badge stuck on the back either. Respect.
