Hi guys,
Sorry for being mia for a few days. Took a couple days off last week for the long holiday weekend and just catching up. Good news finally. Yesterday after coutless delays our one-off set of the midpipes finally shipped. The shop took a couple of pics before they shipped it, I'm waitng on those right now...hopefully late late tonight but we'll see. Worst case I should have the pipe in my hands Friday. Also we've got a fresh run of axleback sections with your choice of tip styles. They can ship with just a 1-3 days of notice depending on the tip choice. If you have a back order we on an axleback we will be processing them tomorrow. Also got my new car mount camera. I'll hopefully be adding some additional videos soon as well. Rich

MadDad(TM) Midpipe
Guys,
Sorry for the dark image. Our shop took it before they boxed it. I should have this part in my hands Friday and will snap some photos in better lighting. The main focus of this part(as if you haven't heard it from me a dozen times already ) is the custom build "mini" resonators. We had them made to look like a traditional metal substrate catalytic coverter. And honestly, they look just like the metal cats we use in some of our Subaru downpipes. They are placed in an OEM staggered format in the same location as the factory cats. They will help keep the volume/drone down a bit but make no mistake they were sized as they are for a reason and it wasn't all about sound dampening, we wanted them to look close to stock. This is a one off so some seems welds won't be there in the final product. Final product will be all T304 including flanges. TIG welds throughout. Pricing shouldn't move from what we had mentioned before $649.95 regular, $599 with your axleback, and well...$599 for all for a limited time once we post the pre-order on the website. Delivery is still a good 3-4 weeks away by my current estimation. Longer than what I would like but it's take a good 3 weeks longer than expected to get this one-off done. Will keep you all posted. I also think its worth mentioning again that these are all 100% hand built in the U.S. Eventually this market will see products manufactured from parts of the world where it's cheapest to build. We are familiar with that every day in the Subaru community were there is plenty of that. We engineer our produts to sound right first..regardless of what it cost to due that right...and sound right over the life of the product so it sounds the same 2 years..3 years..4 years later. Most of the time when products are sent to low cost manufacturing countries the first priority is lowest built cost. Everything else is secondary. I don't want to over sterotype because there can be some very high quality product to come from those countries but only if a brand insists on it..and in my experience I have not seen much of that. How do I know this. I know it because about 35% of the folks that buy our exhausts are replacing a system they bought a year prior(or less). At first they thought they got a great deal. The day you first put a new exhaust on you always think it's great. But once that day 1 or week 1 wears off, opinions often change. I always say the best deal is on the exhaust you never have to replace..but remember I am little biased

Niiiice! On a slightly related point I was in the country of Malta over the Thanksgiving day holiday and showed my GF's father a clip of my Maddad Exhaust (mind you this is a diehard Ducati/Ferrari/Italian Machinery fan). The very FIRST thing he said once the video started was "It sounds like a Ferrari!". That brought a smile to my face and reminded me of when R. first posted his clips of the exhaust. I cannot say enough that this is absolutely the best sounding exhaust out there for the 135i.

I got an email early this eveiing from a potential customer asking me to verify if the 135i factory midpipe actually has catalytic converters in it. Seem there is some confusion as another vendor was referring to them as resonators. I can tell you for certain that the factory midpipe has two catalytic conveters plus the huge resonator at the end...which honestly I would not even classify as a resonator. It's size would just about put it into the muffler category. A resonator is in fact, just a small muffler.
So in summary - our midpipe deletes the 2 secondary factory catalytic converters and replaces them with eerily similiar looking mini-resonators I get that most of you already knew this but I thought it would be worth claifying since there still might be some confusion on the subject. R.

It's worth repeating how sane the exhaust still sounds with catless midpipes without resonators. I have driven in the car(a local customer) and he runs his MadDad with CP-E catless midpipe.
I will post more of the axlback alone..got the new car camera just haven't found the time to go play yet

Better pic of midpipe
Here is a better shot of the midpipe. Please remember again its a one-off for testing so there are a number of extra "pieces" that are welded together to make up the full pipe. The final product will be continuous pipe from each side of the resonators(with the exception of the collector which will still be a separate piece). I'll be started the $599 GB thread shorty and starting a separate thread for that. We're still working out the box size which will be important for shipping estimates. We should have it all worked out before end of this week. Hopefully will start taking orders end of this week and I'll try and get an updated ETA for shipping. Probably spilling over to the first week of January..but that's not all that far away.
You'll also be glad to know I have arranged a Dyno session for Saturday morning. I've only got a couple hours but we're going to head down and get a baseline with just the MadDad axleback..then install the midpipe and dyno again. In an ideal situation I would have started with my factory axleback on the car as I'd love to see how much power the axleback alone makes. While I don't advertise the axleback for power purposes I have no doubt at all that the axleback section gives some(even if its just 5-6hp). The factory axleback is just such an unnecessary mess of bends. We've got another future customer that is interested in working with us on some dyno numbers as well so after the holiday break we gets some additional but at a minimum we'll have some numbers in the midpipe, and it seems there is a lot of interest from not only existing MadDad axleback owners but others as well so having this isolated number will still be useful. My car has no engine management/piggyback,ect. so other than the exhaust the car is stock. I'm pumped to get this pipe installed.

It looks very good. Will the resonator smooth out or quiet the sound a little bit? Will it add more restriction to flow?
