Just the other day, it alerted me to a cop up ahead and sure enough he was in the median with a laser/lidar gun. I had already slowed down. I know folks that just follow waze regardless of where it sends you because it automatically routes around the traffic. The accuracy is uncanny. The predicted arrival time at your destination is always spot on -- I've never had it off by more than 1 minute (on a 30-45 minute commute). This is in the Boston area, so plenty of other waze users on my commute. |

At least, I am able to get some voice commands to work and it keeps getting better with each update. This is what most people who knock iDrive as simply an outdated Nav unit are missing: the Nav is the least interesting thing about iDrive.

I ordered mine without Nav just to save $7K.The money I saved went to good use: Borla and Maddad mids, AFE intake, car cover, ER charge pipe, Lux angel eyes, etc.
Little did I know that now I want to sell the car it has become a problem cause every retard that calls for the Ad asks if it has it or not. I bought the car for pure driving and performance pleasure, not to play with a freaking screen.Besides driving in Peru takes skills, they drive like shit and have to be alert ALL the time. |

I'll add my 2 cents...
I wouldn't have this car without NAV - not for the NAV itself, but for the screen/iDrive. Soooo much easier to use for everything vs. the dial and two line screen. Personal preference I know, but for me, I would not have the car without it. The comments about people not paying $60K for the car are also funny. A 1M just ran through the BMW auction - was a PC car (Perf Center). Had over $8K in damage to it (that was repaired). Went for $60K. If you think I'm making this up, call your dealer

My car is a stripper plus heated seats. I was going to order a loaded car but i missed on getting an allocation and got lucky to find mine at a dealer after the buyer backed out. I'd like the options but don't miss them at all.

The best part is that BMW lets us decide what we want. No being forced into something we don't want and/or can't have. A win/win if you ask me

That is exactly the opposite of what most people in this thread have said. BMW does force you into something you don't want with their ridiculous package options on this car. To get NAV, you HAD to get Premium which includes electric seats and a lot of other fluff that some people don't want. IOW to get just NAV was impossible, but to get NAV at all was a ~$7000 option.

I wanted iDrive for the ipod/iphone integration features but did not want the PDC dots in the bumper (I also don't believe that NAV is a "good investment" in the smartphone age as it is way overpriced). I got lucky because my 1M is one of the few (in the US) with free iDrive/NAV and I have no PDC dots!

Basically I/we had a choice to add or delete NAV not a choice to build the car the way we wanted it built. |

So it seems the bundles for options was a NA BMW thing as we in the UK could specify each and every option individually pretty much available....

I came to this old thread looking for the number of NA 1M cars with and without nav. Didn't find what I was looking for, but found it interesting reading 10 year old opinions of the navigation option. I wonder how everyone feels now about that box in the middle of their dashboard?

the idrive/nav system works just fine as it was back in 2011. Used it last sunday for a one way 60 mile trip and got me there accurately. It's also quite useful and easier to scroll as well when using BT paired with your phone, service checks, oil level check and other things.
My build seems to have all the boxed check.

You can get the answers in the sheet referenced in this thread for all the options: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1468677
203 of the 761 US cars have no nav (27%) 77 of the 222 Canada cars have no nav (35%) There were 30 US cars that got nav without ordering it due to a factory error. Last edited by analogue; 04-12-2024 at 10:55 AM.. |

The maps for the navigation system can be updated via the USB port in the glovebox, and iPhone integration still works great via armrest USB port. The display in the middle of the dash is the best place for keeping your line-of-sight close to the road and doesn't disrupt the lines of the car. The only benefit to no-nav cars are the manual seats giving better (lower) seating position, but M2 comp seats are nearly plug-n-play and go as low as the manual seats.
