I don't see where you personally insulted his car. I say you called out a particular chassis but not a someones personal car who they had put considerable time and effort into.

I have no emotions affecting my comments if you're referring to me. Just telling it like it is. Too many people read crap on the internet and think it's as fact with no real seat time or details to know that their talking about. Then you have the people just tossing their own comments in to stir things up some more because they have nothing better to do.

I know that S197s can be made to be road course worthy and do well at it. Just because I "dont have seat time" doesn't mean I don't know what those S197s are and are not capable of. Reading from the internet from people who own the car tells me all I need to know. Even with my stock 135i walking 2 stock S197s easily.
The 3v 4.6l is junk. Throw tons of money to make it a bit faster and still get beat by bolt-on 3rd gen f-bodies. |

Would love to pull up next to one of these on the highway and see what would happen with a 55 roll. Win or loosen still want to do it. Maybe I'll find one next summer. Last 5.0 couldn't keep up. Never found out if he had anything done. My total is around $42K with purchase of car from factory, as it sits now. Can't imagine what it would do with another $8k to dump into the Turbos and drive train. One day I'll find out. Car does look pretty sweet though. Looks beefy.

"Thanks to the stiffened front end, the steering wheel twitches in your hands, communicating textures, undulations, and grip levels as you drive down the road. Turn the wheel and the car responds as quickly as if you’d poked it with a needle. Wheel and body control are just as tight. Dive into a series of challenging turns in the Mustang and you’re not driving a car, you’re wearing wheels. " Modded, the cars relative speed/handling is a function of the mods. But the Mustang has more potential. As far as what BMW to compare the Mustang to, the original poster was asking about a 2011 135 versus a 2015 Mustang GT. That comparison is easy. All of which is not to say the Mustang is a better car in every way. Just faster and better handling. Last edited by 128Convertibleguy; 12-19-2014 at 09:37 PM.. |

I'm 55yo, for me to climb out of a Mustang (speed and power and all) would really look *stupid*. Can I get a 28yo hottie to go with the car, too, please?

I'm substantially older, and until a couple of years ago, used to climb out of a convertible f-body. The usual response from the viewing public was "nice car". Mind you, I get that response from the BMW, too.

I love how folks insist on the "stock for stock" argument. Makes my day every time.
On another note: What's the harm in liking more than one car? I had a heavily modded 5.0 (badged anyways) chase me down in traffic the other day, not sure what year exactly, we raced, and I pulled on him. We gave eachother the thumbs up and rode off. His car sounded and looked GREAT. Not sure I'd have one, but I liked it well enough. Beast of a car in pretty much every way.

You can always take the 5 liter, wide track, big wheel well Mustang farther than you can take a 135. After it's been around for awhile, there will be far more mods for it, from cosmetic to full race stuff, at cheaper prices. Just a market thing. All of that said, I don't know what to think of journalists sometimes. I have a hard time believing the subframe on the 1-series is that compromised (stock) compared to a (stock) GT, given that the GT has always been somewhat wallowly and soft - in fact, I've read other reviews of the new Mustang that note exactly that. I know, also, that Road and Track loved the 135is, which at least has the linear springs that the earlier 135i's did not have. And although the Mustang is wider, it's also quite a bit larger and heavier. Maybe it's a matter of expectations at a given price point? I guess I'm hesitant to take the word of a single journalist, so maybe I need to drive the car before forming an opinion. More realistically, I'd give the GT350 a test drive when they start showing up. I'm super excited about that car... America is making some truly exciting cars these days. I just haven't *read* enough just yet to make me believe that the new Mustang would be any more at home on a twisty back road than the 1-series stock. Mods are, I'm sure, cheaper on the Mustang, but the 135i is a great platform as well. Minus tire size limitations, anyway, but I'm not after a car that does nothing but grip - I want to be able to play with the car's balance. You can throw huge tires on any of a number of cars and achieve that kind of result. |
