I wish I had some pics of repairs I have done with the putty. My daughter gouged out a huge spot on her side view mirror from a mailbox lid left down on a narrow street. Right in the center of the mirror about the size of a quarter with a trailing scratch from it. I filled it all in with the putty, let it cure, and it looked like I had put down a feather coat and sanded it. I then just scuffed it up with some scotch-brite, then painted her entire mirror. With yours, I would do the touch up paint as it will be tough to blend it any other way aside from painting a larger area from fender line to headlight edge. |

While you could be right that it was to cut down on hood lift, I think it may actually have been a cost cutting measure after all, because it looks like they battled hood lift with two release mechanisms on each side, rather than a central mechanism like on our cars. I'm assuming the new 3 also has these double mechanisms. m235i |

With the new hood latches, you have to pull the release in the car twice to open the hood, FYI. There's no opener under the hood like in our cars.

A couple of weeks back, my comfort access stopped working. My mechanic found that the area under the trunk liner where the comfort access module is located had standing water, and, after lots of water tests, he determined that there was a tiny pinhole in a weld behind the passenger side tail light, and water was slowly dripping down there, which fried the module.
Well, after sealing the hole, I was quoted $400 or so for a new comfort access module and program, but I found out on this site that, if you take a module from another E82/E90/E92, it's already programmed and will work. I found one from an E90 on eBay for $60, installed it today in 2 minutes...and it works! |

Not sure if I've posted this. Got OEM roof racks before Christmas and made it be the winter beater.
Kinda sorta low key digging the look with the box.

Here's a 4-page thread about hood lift. It's from the 1M forum, but it doesn't matter because it's the same hood. It has both videos I posted here earlier about hood lift. Dack has a couple of posts in there, as well as a post with links to other car forums with the same problem.

Drove mine up to the Reyn Speed Shop open house this morning in San Juan Capistrano. Great meetup, and didn't see a single other 1 Series.

Yep, I like it too. There were at least 6-7 E30 M3's there this morning.

Went to a club talk on Car Control Clinic and High Performance Driver Education... signed up for the CCC, will hold off on HPDE. I should do some neck exercises before I throw it around with a 3+ lb weight on my head

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong. I love modern classic and vintage BMWs. The E30 3 Series was what originally attracted me to the brand. I own a rough one that I’ve been dialing back in. The M3 is incredible. Would love to have one in Alpine White or Hennarot, but they aren’t cheap!
It was just funny to see so many mint E30 M3s, and not a single other 1 Series, as there were plenty of other modern BMWs present. |

Installed my Stainless Steel performance pedal set. Gas pedal was extremely easy of course, brake pedal went on better that I expected, clutch pedal was a PITA as it has the least amount of thickness/metal on it.
I don't have the softest touch, so I kept pressing the rubber out of the SS insert while trying to muscle it on. It's one of those things that requires more finesse than anything, but finally got it seated correctly. |

Outside:
A peek inside: My E30 is a beater, but I really dig it. I always wanted an Alpine White E30, and I'm sort of fascinated by the eta M20B27 engine. It's a 1985 325e that's been through several owners, but using a few resources, I was able to track down almost all of the maintenance history dating back to new. I'm slowly bring it back to life, or I suppose a more presentable state. I estimate the engine has close to 300k or more on it, and I think the black sport interior was swapped in at some point. Hood fitment is off in the photo because I actually swapped that panel over due to the original one being damaged. I have yet to adjust it to my satisfaction. |
