That's one of things I love about the 1 series; you don't see many of them, so we're 'rare birds.' lol

Yep, I like it too. There were at least 6-7 E30 M3's there this morning.

Went to a club talk on Car Control Clinic and High Performance Driver Education... signed up for the CCC, will hold off on HPDE. I should do some neck exercises before I throw it around with a 3+ lb weight on my head

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong. I love modern classic and vintage BMWs. The E30 3 Series was what originally attracted me to the brand. I own a rough one that I’ve been dialing back in. The M3 is incredible. Would love to have one in Alpine White or Hennarot, but they aren’t cheap!
It was just funny to see so many mint E30 M3s, and not a single other 1 Series, as there were plenty of other modern BMWs present. |

Installed my Stainless Steel performance pedal set. Gas pedal was extremely easy of course, brake pedal went on better that I expected, clutch pedal was a PITA as it has the least amount of thickness/metal on it.
I don't have the softest touch, so I kept pressing the rubber out of the SS insert while trying to muscle it on. It's one of those things that requires more finesse than anything, but finally got it seated correctly. |

Outside:
A peek inside: My E30 is a beater, but I really dig it. I always wanted an Alpine White E30, and I'm sort of fascinated by the eta M20B27 engine. It's a 1985 325e that's been through several owners, but using a few resources, I was able to track down almost all of the maintenance history dating back to new. I'm slowly bring it back to life, or I suppose a more presentable state. I estimate the engine has close to 300k or more on it, and I think the black sport interior was swapped in at some point. Hood fitment is off in the photo because I actually swapped that panel over due to the original one being damaged. I have yet to adjust it to my satisfaction. |

On the hood lift issue, I'm working on something for my carbon hood to protect against lifting. I hate how hood pins look on this hood so I'm working up some custom options. I noticed it lifting when I was driving home from picking it up (without the previous owners hood pins attached)

I just bought a pair of round hood-pins for mine, because I wasn't looking forward to cutting fancy shaped holes in my hood. ... in other news, I'm told my car should be on the Dyno today. ... excited would be an understatement Last edited by xQx; 02-13-2023 at 09:15 PM.. |

Sorry to keep you in suspense, but it'll probably be another month before we know. I'm still waiting for the hood to arrive - shipping by boat from the USA to Australia is slooow.
Edit: That said, I'm very tempted to install them on my steel hood first so I can perfect my installation process and see how well they work before I go potentially ruining a very expensive carbon fiber hood Last edited by xQx; 03-11-2019 at 06:16 PM.. |

Just another data point on the hood latch issue- The Wife's 2013 X1 is like a triple latch config- couple photo's attached. Primary hook and the release mechanism is in the center, but there are two additional lock points, one on each side.
As for some 1er stuff- I chased down my, apparently, massive boost leak. Not sure how it's pushing enough air to not throw codes!! Leak is bad enough on the IC cold side I thought perhaps the o-ring was missing! Nope, it's essentially brand new, and in great shape, not kinked, cut or anything. I pulled it all apart and reassembled several times with no change to the leak symptom. In other, related news... I have ordered a new Phoenix Racing 7.5"Race IC. This will get me off of the OE piping so I can control the connection points, and gets me a nice core to help deal with the blazing summer temps here. ((edit to add: helps to attach the pics....))

Reinstalled the IP dash trim moulding. The far right corner has been loose as long as I can remember. Actually bought a pre-owned one a while back. Didn't use it.
Mine has a cell phone mount affixed. More importantly, it's covered in felt on the bottom to attempt to alleviate some squeaks and rattles. Problem wasn't with the trim, but with a crack in the dash itself, right where the retainer pops in. Also, trim piece was missing one of the 5 insert pins. I epoxied the loose retainer in place. Couldn't find a replacement for the mounting pin (new panel didn't include any.) So I made one out of a 10mm alloy steel bolt. Not quite as pretty as factory, but it's hidden and it works! |

I don't go fast enough to have my hood lift (on the street) I'll definitely keep an eye on the thing next time I'm at the track. Maybe I'll delete the standard hood latch and go with a locking AeroCatch-like solution. I worry about the hood release cable snapping more than anything, and that would be a great way to delete the stock system.
I'm really looking into coilovers now. The Ohlins R&T units look wonderful, but I'd (almost certainly) have to get stiffer springs in the rear to go with my solid subframe bushings, and I'd probably want to get Vorschlag or Ground Control camber plates. I also like the Fortune Auto Gen7 500-Series (their building is an hour away, and they also have great reviews) which can be ordered with the correct springs and a few other goodies, and I can even then use the difference in price between the two and do an exhaust (finally)...
