the primary cats are more restrictive than the secondaries, you don't have to be cat less you can keep the cats in the mid pipes and just replace your downpipes

just like to say I just received my COBB yesterday
except i got an unrecognised rom Email sent to COBB yesterday but no reply yet. I know they said up to 5 business days but come on... it's hard reading all about it and have it sitting on my desk doing nothing (the demo feature only keeps you amused for so long ) |

why did BMW engineers design the primary cats to be so restrictive? Are they bad engineers? Did they make a calculation mistake? Did they not test the engine? |

You want to install mods to make your car faster? Cool. It is legal in many states in the US to get catless DP which is an easy performance boost. Just be happy you can even do that. In many places you could get in a lot of trouble if you mess with the emissions system of your car. Just sayin'. Last edited by Dodo; 03-02-2012 at 10:31 AM.. |

Sometimes i wonder about the same thing. I am sure bmw engineers could have done better than that. At least give us an option for high flow catted DPs

Can't you understand one of the most important things creating a new model car is CO2. So what do you want from BMW sit and enjoy real power even with 4 cats on the car

Can we expect from COBB following?
1. Launch control (maybe adjustable RPM) 2. Throttle map between aggressive and linear (which would better work for rev matching) 3. Ability to limit boost if I don't want to run very high PSI (like Procede has) w/o ATR 4. Flat food shift 5. The most aggressive maps but with downpipes (to keep car legal) Of course all BUG fix That would be my perfect wish list. |

The point is... BMW engineers put the "restrictive" cats and down pipes there for a reason. Compromise, yes. But one needs to know what those are before blindly replacing the DPs. I get the sense that a lot of people don't know. They just look at increased performance claims. At what price? If there was no price to be paid, BMW engineers would have done it. On legality... even if there was no other price (such as driveability in low RPMs and durability of the engine), in many USA states an annual emissions test is mandated. You may not pass that test if you remove the cats. |

It took the Cobb team over two years to develop and perfect the N54 tune. N55 is right around the corner and you guys will not be disappointed!

if it's anything like the australian cars where it is not officially supported. Then there is no reason to wait. Quite a few of us down under have the cobb and once the initial hurdle of getting the firmware update to recognise the rom, everything is great!
