Thanks man. I hope to contribute on here to the best of my abilities with the limited knowledge I have on these things.

And yes, as it turns out this is the case with the bluetooth. You can only receive calls through the bluetooth, no streaming music. Oh well, I do have the aux. hookup and USB connection. I think the aux sounds better anyway.

Sadly, I check fluids and such, threw some fuel stabilizer in the tank, and hooked up the battery tender. Time for it's winter nap.

You need a dongle or to plug it into the Aux plug. Phone works over BT, but music doesn't.

Congrats and welcome! That's a sweet E82.

BT music requires iDrive and a 2012-2013 build car. Unfortunately for your car, factory BT music won't be possible without iDrive.

You can use a Viseo Tune2Air to get BT streaming and steering wheel controls through AUX/USB.

For maintaining the best sound quality, you can install this device that requires a bit more work:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F123783948264

It runs off the CD changer interface and therefore connects directly through the car's fiber optic system for full digital audio. Also gives you steering wheel controls. You can elect not to use the BT/mic side and just keep connected to your factory setup for phone calls.

Congratulations and welcome! I have a 2012 128i M Sport coupe. I don't have iDrive, but I can stream music from my iPhone using the USB port under the armrest. I'm not sure whether it was an option or whether it came standard.
You connect the iPhone to the USB, then on the radio you select the source as "iPod", and it thinks the phone is an iPod. You can play Spotify, iTunes, etc. You can even control it using the steering wheel controls. It will also announce turn-by-turn directions from Waze or Google Maps over the stereo speakers.

After chopping up my fuel bucket(went bucketless because I beat the hell out of the first one taking it apart) Well it works great so far but I found another on ebay $60 and it arrived yesterday.
Took this one apart in 10 min with no problems. Everything is so much easier the 2nd time doing it.
I'm going to make a stage 2 bucketed pump and keep my bucketless as well. Just in case I run into starvation issues. Always good to have a backup plan.

What iOS do you have? I can’t get my iPhone to work like this. It doesn’t recognize anything is there when I use the iPod key.

I, sniff sniff, put her to bed in my garage. Winter came in like a lion yesterday and tons of salt was down on the roads. Didn't even get a chance to wash her, nor change the oil (its only got about 2500 miles on the oil). If it does warm up in the next month or so, I'll take care of the oil and wash her. Presently its about 15ºF but expect it will drop a few more degrees tonight.

I'm using an iPhone on iOS 13.2.2, and it worked on iOS 12 as well. It even displays the Spotify track info the stereo screen.
It also works just using an old iPod Classic (you can navigate the album/artist list using the buttons on the stereo, although it's a pain if you have a large music collection).

I've checked my VIN for features/options, and my car includes "S6FLA USBAudio Interface". I don't know whether that was standard equipment or an option.

Interesting- do you only use the USB, or also the AUX with that special "Y" cable?

I only use a USB cable - don’t need the AUX. On the underside of the armrest there’s also a pouch. I keep a 120 GB iPod Classic in there. It works the same way as the iPhone - just plug it into the USB port and control it via the stereo or steering wheel.

See Pages 24-26 of the attached user manual (courtesy 1addicts.com). This is the setup in my car.

I think the Y-cable was required only for very old iTunes files that used DRM, which I believe Apple stopped using around 2009.

Man, I just checked out your build thread. I envy your 6 speed/sport package combo I searched every nook and cranny for a 128i M sport coupe with 6 speed, but apparently it’s a pretty rare combo. Nice car!

I go to UCF maybe I’ll see you around.

I tried plugging into the USB port with my iPhone and I'm getting some sort of "Incompatible device" notification on the screen. I know iPhone cords can be finicky, but not sure what the problem is. I will buy a new cord and try.

Went sliding around with some DSC off fun in this storm

Also changed out the aging stock D1S bulbs to GT Ultra. First time trying these, they have extremely good reviews in HID testing and I'm pleased so far. Way better output than the 7 year old stock bulbs.

I have that. It works fine. BUT, to use the other features of the car with iDrive, you need to unplug it.
