She's riding like she just rolled off the showroom floor now.
i had brought my car with around 92k miles to the local BMW dealer to inquire on getting my DCT serviced given my mileage.

my dealer mentioned that it is lifetime fluid and that i should wait closer to 125k miles to do this service. they also mentioned that it could actually make things worse if i do it 'early'.

how true is this? sounds weird to me.
This topic has been discussed on the internet to death. Ultimately everyone has come to the consensus that the fluid should be changed every 100k mikes at the latest per BMW. ZF and many others suggest every 50-75k miles. Mike Miller from the Roundel Magazine has a great document for service intervals. The earlier you change the fluid, the better. No harm can be done. In fact, you're being precautious and helping your car last longer. Do the fluid change. You'll be happy you did.

I'm itching for a little more power. I know the Vette has all I need, but the "1" is so fun to drive and rev the sh!t out of. Since I'm maxed out on the mods....weight reduction is my only option. I'm pretty much the only one who rides in the car anyway and don't need a rear seat.

Seriously looking at maybe an LSD as well.
Supposedly 30-40 lbs. I'm also removing the sunroof drains since I'm doing body work too. Planning to weigh everything that came off the car. Not much but every pound counts.

Not doing a rear seat delete. Will do recaros in a year or so. Thinking about ripping out all the insulation.

More powah? I seem to remember a SC kit for the N52.

Yeah....everything I have researched about that seems to be a fail though. If it was something that hit slightly over 300 to the wheels and reliable..I would probably do it. Biggest issue with this car is the lack of TQ. I don't think the SC kit shined in that aspect at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the little car. Haven't dyno'd it yet...but from others I have seen with the same mods as mine were maybe 280hp/230tq at the crank. The gear change in the rear diff made more of a SOTP difference than anything!

I love my sport seats. And the Apex wheels shaved a bit of weight. I figured a rear seat delete would probably be where I headed next.

My biggest issue...I can't leave stuff alone!!!

Gearing is huge and overlooked by most, including myself initially.

Yeah Apex wheels help. Allowed me to upsize to 275 square and still lose around a pound or two per corner. Rear seat delete is good for ~50 lbs I think, but I haven't come up with a good way to install a dog bed and my daughter's car seat back there without the seat. So I'm stuck.

Also removed the ears from my front Brembos. They were .75 lbs each, or 3lbs total.

Do you happen to have a picture of the calipers with the ears off?

I don't get the lack of love for sunroofs.
I get the motivation for not ordering a sunroof when spec-ing a new car. Saves money and weight.
But if he already paid for one, what does deleting it do besides forcing him to spend even more money to properly cover the hole (probably repaint the entire roof)?
No, you won't notice the weight savings. Not even on the track, unless you're able to drive 10/10 at every turn.

Why?
  • because it rattles
  • because it's hard to recover the panel
  • because it's hot
  • because it's heavy
  • because .. do I need more?

Don't do it if you don't want to. I've had several folks who did the change say they noticed the car felt a little less top heavy. The only worse place to hang 40lbs is in front of the front bumper.

What purpose do those ear weights even serve on our Brembos? The calipers look so much better without them.

And... Did a leak test with my garden hose now that it's been 24h since the sealant went in... NO LEAKS.

Installing the 1M headliner tomorrow morning as early as I can get up. Gotta get it done fast in time to cook.

I don't know if you guys with convertibles have seen these but there is a rack solution for our cars. the rack uses suction cups like those used in action movie scenes so no hooks etc to scratch the paint.

I bought it last summer but did not try it until last week that I needed to get some tires to the shop for mounting. I have to report that it worked fine even at highway speeds. looking forward to trying some snowboard-carrying this winter

Not yet. Know a couple others with them removed for a few thousand miles, no issues.

Where did you get it, and is there a tether?

there is no tether. just 3 suction cups. see the website link for info. http://revo-rack.com/language/en/rev...-luggage-rack/

It is a small British company. I had very good experience communicating with them.

the suction cups have little pumps that evacuate the air inside and they are very steady.

Cool, thanks. I had a clamp on rack on my Saturn Sky, and liked it a lot.

As for the teather, they do have this:

Slicktop 1M headliner is installed. Got all the electronics working except my center some light which has a totally different plug and pinout. Gonna have to research that.

Because I'm tall and a helmet is required for track days. I didn't fit with the sunroof.

Also, #becauseracecar.
