Have we seen images of a 1M with retractable nozzles from the shows (i.e "advertised publicly (as recently as the NYC Auto Show"). Just checked my own early UK pics and clearly fixed nozzles.

All i have ever seen on the 1M are either fixed nozzles or nothing at all.
I have wondered if the extra oil cooling hardware/heatsinks fitted in the bumper mean the retractable ones won't fit. I read that only the 1er M sport models in the UK have the retractable washers. |

This isn't going to change my mind on the car, but is an annoyance nonetheless. The lack of Homelink is more annoying, though....

Sorry, just one more rant about the lack of HomeLink on the 1M!
Why is it that the 1M can be ordered with BMW Apps that allow you to post to both Facebook and Twitter yet you can't get an option to open your garage door? This is just plain stupid!

Thanks For the review, I can have one car and your feedback only reaffirms my decision to go with a cayman. BMW is bit subdue and I believe that is the reason aftermarket exhaust for BMW is doing so well.

May I ask why you are getting a 1M when you'll be hauling all those things. Seems like a 4 door STi like you currently have is a much better idea.. |

Nice I love it in white. Read your original thread. Your car already had 30 miles on it? I know new cars are delivered with 3-10 miles but 30? I can probably say in confidence that you car was driven by someone other than the tech and transport driver.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...33#post9564533 This car is wicked fast, even with the M button on the traction nanny is flashing all the time in first gear if you get on it at all, accelerating at 50-75% throttle and when you reach 4000 rpms it will spin the tires on dry pavement. This car is fun, I own 3 MINIs, 2 of them JCWs and a Corvette and this thing is a match for all of them. Might not need that Torque fix from the Vette anymore. No "HomeLink" and no dipping passenger mirror unless I don't know how to turn that on, will spend the next few hours reading the dreaded manual. And MSRP WB |

Why would you expect the M button to help with this? Surely the keener throttle response will only make it worse? M Dynamic Mode might help, with its bigger lattitude before getting involved, but that isn't activated by the M button, right?

My car had 8 miles at delivery. It had 30 miles on it when I pulled into my driveway.

The M Dynamic Mode tones down the DSC. That is activated by pressing the DSC button between the center vents momentarily. Nothing to do with the M button.

Just put the car in reverse and turn the knob to all the directions, if it doesn't drop then you prolly don't have the feature. I can't imagine there is another button to activate it unless it's somewhere in the navi option list?

So I have 300 miles on my 1M and am starting to feel comfortable with it. I've had time to take it out on some twisty roads. I am very impressed by its competence and composure. It is very neutral in the curves without a hint of under or oversteer. It is impressively flat in the corners. What I am most impressed with is how much power there is throughout the rev range. I found I had to shift less than in other cars I have taken out on the same roads. The 1M seems to so flexible in it's power delivery. It will adapt to your driving style, not requiring you to adapt to it's needs. Back to my Cayman comparison, the 1M is just as competent but with less drama. The Cayman requires more attention and work to drive the same roads. I realize I'm nowhere near the limits of either car.
The sound is definitely improving. It has a nice low rumble, especially with acceleration. Again, the sound is understated. It would never be mistaken for an aftermarket exhaust. If you are listening, you will notice it. But, it's not the kind of exhaust that will turn heads or grab peoples attention which is fine with me. My one disappointment that is becoming more noticeable with time are the seats. With the handling ability of this car, they just don't hold me in place the way I'd like. I find I have to brace myself and firmly plant my left foot on the footrest to minimize sliding around when driving the way the car begs to be driven. Even my wife commented on how much she was sliding around in the curves. My original thought was to get a proper fixed bucket for the driver and leave the stock passenger seat to allow access to the back beat. After her comments, I know I have to get two seats. So now I have to decide if I want to give up access to the rear or find some folding seats. The BMW Performance seats seem ideal. If only there were available here. |
