You'll need spacers up front. 10-12mm would make it a perfect fit with camber.

I have just been told, point blank, on multiple occasions by their staff, that the 17" fitment for the 1er is far from ideal, limited in tire choices(especially in terms of track tires), and generally requires suspension setup. I take their word on it much more than people on a forum. How often do you see a negative review of a mod choice? APEX clearly wants to sell product as that as their business, so unless the fitment is truly a bit off, it does them no favors to repeatedly tell me that it is a race fitment that really isn't ideal for a street car.

Starting with a 50mm offset, with a decent bit of camber, 255 square seems reasonably achievable too being able to add just the right front spacer. |

Have you actually done this to confirm? Up front a 17" wheel needs a lower offset than a comparable 18" wheel, due to where the tire is positioned. My ET40 17x8.5 wheels have my 255 Hankooks not any more than 2mm or so away from the strut. Smaller aftermarket suspension will offer more clearance, but my sentiments hold true for OEM springs/dampers.

I have also heard that. I've done ~10 track days with my LTW5's and haven't had problems. They are disturbingly light. Maybe stay away from those apex berms

I actually completely forgot about the LTW5s. Size, tire, and fitment for you? Any rub on or off track?

I have Ohlins coilovers and I had to get shorter springs so they wouldn't rub on the lower spring holder bracket thingy (there's a word I'm looking for). I had rolled my front fenders previously and I have a good amount of camber dialed in so it's hard to tell whether they rub on the front fenders but I don't think they do. The rear is the pita. I've rolled the rear fenders as best as I can but anyone who has tried to do so knows how hard this is with the way the sheet metal is layered/bent. I've got it to the point where it only rubs in long constant radius turns, e.g., turns 2/3 spring mountain. But, it's not too bad. Doesn't seem to be damaging the tire.

Love to hear what you end up doing. In march I'm going to put on a stoptech kit and I'm really nervous I'm going to be forced to go to 18"

Not to highjack, do you think 17x7.5 42mm offset with 245/40 Z2's would fit the front on a stock 135?

7.5 is super skinny for a 245 - especially a wide 245 like those dunlops are

No worries, he didn't mention it. But I recognize him from the Philly SCCA scene years back.
I mean, of course you're right, but they play by different rules. I've seen 275s on WRX 6.5" wheels. As do I I guess, modestly different, but I've run 255/40s on 8" wheels for just about 15 years on the track. |

I haven't run 245s that are that oversized, but from what I know, if you do rub a hair at high steering angles, it won't be a concern for you. You're not going to burn through tires/fender liners or anything like that. Should be minor.
