hey, ian - can you start the dyno in M mode first and go into non-M mode? Zuzu's result was different to other results posted from reliable posters. I think his results are to do with the cold engine - boost on non-M mode seems to be on the low side.
The technical director in M actually stated that the ///M button only change throttle mapping and closes the waste gate, i.e. no power change. Running in M mode first will avoid any issues with cold engine.

Fitting the N55 midpipes tomorrow morning and while I am at it, will sort out some braided hoses and uprated brake fluid, after easter will drop off at Hayward & Scott for a custom axle back system to finish it off......

Cool, any chance you will do a pre- and post- dyno? We got some deltas for both the Berks and the MadDads, would be cool to get the N55 mids in there as pretty much those are the 3 main choices for mids.

The it threw the previous hypothesis out the window from the other thread. Also noted results from yesterday's dyno day which confirms the mid pipe gains at 6-7kw.

I pick my N55 mids up on Thursday. What are y'all doing with your std parts? Is there much of a resale market for N54 mids out there?
Thx

If I were you I would just place them in storage...the stockers have catalytic converters which makes them extremely expensive compared to the N55 mid pipes. Save yourself the hassle if you ever want to go back to stock.

Lol, I was afraid someone would say that. I'll just stash it next to my std MINI exhaust that's hanging in the garage and HOPE that Uncle Sam is lenient on weight allowances when we move back to the states

Mine is on back order from BMW. What are your thoughts now that you have had the midpipe on for a week or so ?

My mate who is a tech helped me fit (also the braided brake lines) took it for a good run while I hung back, well worth getting someone to do the same as the note from outside is totally different to what you hear from the inside, also the vids shown don't actually replicate, he had some popping on gear changes and the note is loud on WOT, not what you expect from a oem system, also the improvement in back pressure appears to have improved the throttle response with the M off but it's not a massive difference but for the price I wont knock it, as for the drone, its made a nice improvement all round.....My misses has even noted it on start up and giving it some beans. Next the H&S custom axle back to finish it off and that will do me as I have no plans to remove the main cats unless someone does 200cell sports cat downpipe replacement. |

Might be a newbie question, but when you install the N55 mid pipe, does the absence of the stock secondary cats generate any diagnostic errors? Also, any ideas how this mod affects the results of emission tests?

No ecu errors, sensors are situated on the downpipes as for emissions, and if you are concerned re failing and emission test, just refit the midpipes with the secondary cats when it comes time down the track.....
Will do mate and good luck with getting it in and fitted in time.... |

Swapped mine out yesterday at lunch. No real big differences noted though. It does sound a bit... deeper, the drone is still there around 2500-3k rpms (ish) but it's not as loud as before. I did notice a change in tone at WOT though that's hard to describe but... . It's almost like I can hear the exhaust gases flowing through the pipe now (like I said, hard to describe, lol).
All in all, if it gives me a few hp then I'd say it's a decent exhaust mod for the price. I do have to warn folks though... those aluminum bolts that hold the front of the chassis brace on WILL shear off if you're not careful ().

Thank you all for sharing.
I have only 3 questions: - Does the change of N55 to N54 midpipe cause any issues for the "Check Control" or should I have any problems for warranty? - Does the change the "Exhaust Maintenance" Values? - On the videos I can't hear much difference. Does only the N55 midpipe sound much louder than stock N54 midpipe? Thank you very much! Best regards, Flavush |
