so i was able to find the boat on WWL's website finally. Go here and put in your VIN into the "Cargo ID" section.

so arrives on the port on September 11th. Do you guys know how long a 135is sits at the port getting the parts installed? The salesman i'm working with told me 3 days from arrival to port to dealership----but i remember reading here that the 'is' takes longer due to certain parts going on it at the port, true?

Congrats, at least you now have a date! The 11th isn't too far off...(I know, easy for me to say).

But yes, I'd allow a full week from port to dealer, as they install the PPK2 and secondary radiator, the performance exhaust and your all-important 135is emblems and engine compartment decals at the port.

I've read that too but I can't see how they'd install anything at the port? Isn't it just a giant warehouse? I had hopes these "is" parts were installed at factory...

Nope, unfortunately -- that is why you could never do Euro delivery for a 135is. It is a US spec car only because of the work that is done at the port. I have pics of mine while at the port, getting the radiator installed and where you could also see the stock exhaust still on the car (I had an awesome CA with connections to the guy who runs the port operations).

You should see these port operations -- they are full-on huge operations that can do everything - inspection, body, paint, port-installed accessories (of which there are many options), etc. I toured Port Hueneme, CA a couple years ago and it was impressive. You wouldn't expect such an enormous operation, and the volume they push through is amazing. Just the acres of parking garages that hold the cars coming off the ship is an impressive sight.....

wow that's really cool they took pics of the car at the port! i wish they could do that with mine. so these cars essentially come to the US as stripped down 135s and then transition into 135is at the port? very interesting!!

Yes, they come from the factory as 135i's with the 313 wheels, grille and mirrors already on the car and then at the port complete their transformation into the mean sounding "is" machine

Well, they don't come as stripped down 135s, they come essentially as a 135 with the m-sport package, and all the cosmetics of a 135is. But as Kouper said, the beast then gets put in with the PPK2 and Performance Exhaust.

The weirdest thing nobody can figure out though is, what do they do with the normal 135i exhaust that seems to come on the car that they take right off at the port and discard. Must be a huge pile of black chrome-tipped 135 exhausts somewhere from all these darn 135is's.

The biggest delay for my car was customs. It added over a week to my delivery time, but the car made it home just within the 10 weeks that I was promised. The dealer said 8 to10 weeks.

The port is a full service "shop" as well. NJ Chapter does a yearly tour of the place. They repair any shipping damage, install parts, get the car to the next phase of "readiness," etc... and they install basically all of the parts that make an "is" an "is."

I like when she starts to get all snarky and uppity with you when you call too much, "You again?! What do you want? You car STILL hasn't shipped."

haha....you guys are like how i was last week! I'm sure your cars will get on a boat soon!

i feel relieved it's on a boat now....but am a bit worried about how long it will take through customs/port, etc.....anything related to "New York" always means it could take ages waiting in some sort of a line! lol

Just wrote my CA a mildly annoyed email. They told me 6-8 weeks when I ordered the car, and next week will be 8 weeks, and as far as I know my car still isn't on a boat, then a ~25 day journey, plus time at the port and then shipping up to Norcal... I'm thinking 11-12 weeks at this rate.

Tis a fine line to walk with the CA there, but she absolutely should not have said 6-8 weeks. 8 weeks would be minimum on the west coast, and probably a little longer for an IS due to all the work done to it at the port.

But I bet she responds by saying, "good news, you're on a boat" and you ended up making that 8/31 one.

Yeah I'm not trying to be "that guy" but I wish they had set more reasonable expectations. When they told me 6-8 weeks I thought "really??". I knew my gut was right

Always trust your gut. More importantly, always trust us 135is vets. Usually though the sales people try to cover their ass and usually say 3 months or stock 2-3 months response. Sometimes it can get sped up if they have an a slot about to go into production in a few days and edit it to your specs.

This is the hellish part but will all be worth it in the end.

Thanks man, I'm pretty sure I owe you and a few other guys in here a round of beers for helping me keep my sanity during this agonizing wait.

I'll also try to not make any sexist or women-bashing jokes about trusting a woman. O=|

You probably want to disappear for a week or so as well when those east coasters start getting their cars.

Aside from waiting 2 weeks for my car to go the whole 40 miles from port to my dealer, I nearly found myself yelling at my computer when I was tracking our boat at the Panama Canal as it took it 3 days to just go in! Was circling just outside, and then docked FURTHER away one night. Was like it had canal phobia or watching someone who is afraid of heights get close to the ledge of a tall building, then run away and slowly come back and try again.

You'll be better once you finally get confirmation that you're on a boat. I was in the same boat as you (no pun intended) trying to sell my car and was nerve-racking. Sold my car a week before I thought I was getting the car, but ultimately had to drive a rental hyundai accent for 3 weeks, shelling out hundreds of dollars. I should have asked for a loaner perhaps.
