2010 135i Coupe  [5.26]
This car is being targeted at a different market segment. It's going to be marketed as a sports car rather than a touring car like the 3. It is a different car for less money serving a very different purpose. There are plenty of enthusiasts who will jump at the opportunity to buy this car and cheaper is cheaper. Mini still sells TONS of N/A Coopers with the S priced just $3K more.

As we all know, the 1-Series is a completely new model in the US and the 3-Series is well recognized by the general public and the press. It is going to be difficult road for the 1-Series, especially given that the 3-Series has always been the entry-level model and is BMWs bread & butter automobile.
Agree with that. They isolate themselves badly when they price the 135i above 35,000. When a 128i will easily start below 30, BMW also does themselves a disservice by not allowing dealers the ability to upsell potential 128i buyers to a 135i.

I certainly hope so. It just makes more sense.

First I want to give a big thanks to DrillSlinger for all the great pics and info.

I agree with others that the cooler on the right side is the oil cooler. All the BMW literature shows the IC in the front. Plus the N54 is known for cooking it's oil, so a nice sized oil cooler makes sense.

As for the pricing who knows. All I can tell is that everyone here is chomping at the bit to own their new 1 series.

I was really hoping for other colors than Sedona Red. It's at the top of my list, but I really want to see blue and white.

It's possible that THAT'S the oil cooler I guess
I specifically asked if it was the ladeluftkuehler (load air cooler) and the guy I spoke with yesterday (1 Series product manager Falko Rodomski) was too busy with the TV folks today to help me out (although to his credit he really tried ) It was the 1 Series product director Dr. Gerd Schuster is the one who told me that the IC was on the side I don't know, but you're right... it DOES make more sense.

Sorry, Sedona Red and Sapphire Black were the only colors there :iono:

The Sapphire Black is pretty damn nice though... and with the red leather interior it's quite tasty

Thanks, Drillslinger. Please tell me you're getting pics of this. That's the exact combo I want.

I agree. I have wanted a modern E30 for many years, but in the US where bigger is better , I see smaller non-sport cars having poor sales unless it is a vehicle that is green friendly.

For those that want to agrue the 1-Series coupe is a sports car, maybe to you it is. Look at the history of the M3, it has always been considered a sports sedan even by BMW AG.

I have always wanted a modern E30. That was my first BMW. I had a '89 325is Red/Black and it was so fun to drive. Very tossable and bullit-proof. I owned that car for 12 years and traded it in on an '06 325i E90. I regret giving both of those cars but but I keep looking at the car ads to find a decent E30 to pickup to tinker with.

Now with the 1er coming, I thought it would be a great replacement. This is much more in line with the E30 than the 2002.

I had an 88 325i convert...man did I love that car. you are dead on it was very tossable what a absolute fun car to drive...I guess the 1 will be very similiar in size from the pictures that I have seen esp. with the interior space but will have tons more power and will handle better :roundel:

I had a E30 325e in '84. It was Alpine White with a red interior and I truly loved that car. I've also toyed with the prospect of finding a decent E30, but I think that the 135i will be a great alternative. :roundel:

I've had three E30s. '86 Euro 325i, (sold 02/97) '87 325is (sold 08/98), '88 E30 M3 (still own). In my opinion the E30 was the best built 3-Series. Decent, well-kept E30s are hard to come by these days and if your are lucky enough to locate one then you can expect to pay a premium.

Unfortunately too true. That's why I'm so interested in the 135i. I think that it will be a much easier alternative to finding a decent E30.

89' 325is Red with grey interior.... was my first car when I was 16. Loved that car... actually a mechanic at my local BMW dealer bought it from me and he still has it... i get to see it now and then parked outside the dealer.
