Good choice on your 911, and even better on replacing all the suspension parts. My '81 911SC Targa taught me what "drop-throttle oversteer" was all about. Several years later, Porsche re-defined the 911 suspension to minimize that effect. I haven't read the whole thread here, but does your car have the oil cooler in the right front fender area or just the old "trombone" loop that was deemed sufficient on the older cars? Those air-cooled 911s weren't so much air-cooled as oil-cooled, and back in TX, a real oil cooler was a must-do retrofit.

Nice. I remember shortly after I got my '81, the A/C didn't seem to work well, until I found out that there was a fan under the front of the trunk area that had expired. I looked everywhere for one and finally found it at, of all places, a "Porsche recycling center" near San Francisco. New fans were ridiculously expensive and almost nonexistent (it was 1992 and apparently the parts supply had run out). Did you also run into any issues with the oil pressure sending unit on the back (firewall) side of the engine block? Mine leaked and made it smoke embarrasingly at stoplights until I was able to replace it.

No offense taken. Thin arms/hands are invaluable during car work, especially on the 911.

The fiance and I often joke about how stereotypically "white" our activities are. Last Saturday, for example, we drove around in a vintage Porsche taking tours of restored historic houses, and then went to a polo match.

Twin '87 911
I took me a while to get her out of storage. Needs a little TLC and a few mechanical fixes, but drove nicely after being put to sleep last October. Almost forgot how "planted" these cars are.

As for being planted, there is no replacement for lightness.

Dang! I love seeing older cars that look well maintained and cared for. This thread is slowly turning me into a porsche fan.
