Relating to not being able to use the cars BT with the addition of another device, the answer is both should work fine. Two(ish) BT protocols are in play here, the HFP (Hands free protocol) for calls and A2DP* (for streaming audio). If you have one device doing HFP (the car) and one doing A2DP (an adaptor going into aux, or in my case an adaptor faking an ipod for steering wheel controls), there are no issues. Phones have no issues with multiple BT connections. If you have devices doing both, then its slightly different in that you have to tell the phone what to use for what. In related news, I ordered a pair of beaglebone blacks. One is going to go in the center console talking to the car via the usb port over the iPod serial protocol. The second is going in the trunk connected to my dsp via optical input and acting as an airplay receiver. Theoretically, if I get all the parts to play nice, I end up with nice clean audio, but with the addition of keeping my steering wheel controls. The trick is going to be writing the glue to get all the parts together. * There is a third protocol that may be in play, AVRCP. It requires A2DP and handles playlist/track/song info and control.

You clever SOB. I have one of these wifi devices and never thought of that. I'm totally doing this, thanks for the great idea!
I wonder if this cable would work? http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Jack-Plu...s=USB+to+3.5mm Last edited by Adam135; 01-20-2015 at 08:37 PM.. |

On the topic of Audio - I put my EQ on my iPhone yesterday to "Flat" and noticed great improvement in sound quality on the HK system. Without Flat, the bass and mid is overpowering to my ear and I wasn't able to hear the words in songs while increasing treble didn't help either. LMK if anyone has any other ideas.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001MS...wuL&ref=plSrch Everyday I drive using this, I'm even more convinced how much better it sounds than Bluetooth Btw, on my wifi device the USB is only for power. There’s a separate audio jack that uses the traditional 3.5mm plug. So if your device’s audio output is USB perhaps that’ll work but for mine I know that would not be the case. I meant the "Flat" setting, not off (def different) but Hell Yeah and cheers for the pic of your EQ I will def give those settings a try. EQ Off also has better battery life on your phone.

Germany. OEM trim from the 1M. Once the door pulls get in and get my shifter trim piece I'll be ready to install it.

Thanks Potxoli and 3002 for the great info/links!
I don't have the iDrive/NAV system, so no BT music streaming--only BT phone calls. The Mpow BT to Aux adapter looks great.

Installed ZHP Shift Knob and OEM Mudguards front and rear.
The ZHP Knob replaces my stock M Sport knob and honestly there's not a big difference but still definitely an improvement (I paid $78 shipped which was the lowest I could fine new). Just a bit bummed to find that the two small teets on the M Sport knob are glued/resin to the shift boot retainer ring and cant simply be pried off like the bigger teet. Surprised none of the DIYs mention that. I don't currently have anything holding the stock shift boot up to the ZHP knob, but it kinda sits up to the knob on its own at least. Mudguards were pretty easy to install, I jacked up each corner to give more working room but left the wheels on. Found the fronts to be harder and more time consuming thanks to the little plastic pop in rivets in the front fender liners (also no mention of them or how to properly take them out in any DIYs) If anyone would like to see pics of how they look on a 09 AW coupe please let me know and I'll be happy to oblige
