Same way I am there, but you don't see me. =P Look closely, you'll see it I think. I wanted to get up to 321 horsepower. =) Last edited by gregthegr8; 10-12-2013 at 09:47 PM.. |

The IS was great at the track this weekend. My second (and probably last) event with it at NJMP Lightning circuit. I started to figure out (with my instructor's help) the car's balance and tendencies and that it needs some heavy doses of trail braking to get it to rotate, which I had it doing to my satisfaction. Wasn't timing laps but I definitely got quicker as I was seeing higher speeds everywhere.
No limp mode whatsoever, though the fan did turn on after I stopped after one session because it was a short cool-down lap. After 10k miles and 4 track days, my stock pads are basically shot, and my runflats look abused. It was great fun, but all that said, I can't see tracking this car regularly. With track insurance per event and with the eventuality that some expensive part is going to break, it just doesn't make sense. So the search is on for an E36 M to satisfy the track bug. Alas, no pics.

MB135is: You should come to VIR in November with Track Daze. Car does great there! That's going to be my last track day for the season.

I also see you swapped out the antenna for the "sport" one, which seems to be a must have "mod" on the convertibles. I know Kouper back there is happier than all hell too since he seems to be the only active 135is convertible member on here. Welcome to the club! Yes...yes it is. |

IEDEI - have you scratched/scuffed your car yet? I got a nice scuff on my sideskirt from something on the freeway last week. Now she's a real car.

Lessons Learned When NOT in an 135is
As an aside, and I imagine Rick can attest to this as he had a rental car for a bit, but after logging 2300 miles in 8 days in a new accord, it was awful and I found myself missing my car more and more after every day. May take me a week to get accustomed to it again, but was so nice to be greeted by that new leatherette smell.
I definitely learned some interesting things that I will appreciate even more being back in my car. Here's a random list of me rambling on, feel free to add anything if you've had the unfortunate pleasure of having to drive something else for a prolonged period of time other than your IS: - Weird to be in a car where you literally hear NO exhaust. I was thinking, this car makes no exhaust noise whatsoever, or none that I can hear. Just occasional engine whine - Once you get used to comfort access, man is it hard to go back. I was never a proponent of it, and I don't think I'd pay for it if I didn't get it for free, but problem is, my brain has seemingly been untrained now to actually take a key out of my pocket (or not throw it on the passenger seat) and have to put a key in the ignition. - Our car really is the perfect size. Once you've driven our car for awhile and felt how easy it is to maneuver in traffic, how easily you can make tight u-turns, and park with ease, going into anything bigger is a very disconcerting feeling and they feel like boats. I felt this way a bit with my S5 at 182", but that damn accord was 191" which is huge. At least 8-10 times u-turns I easily could have made in our cars became huge 3-point turns and ordeals. - I missed our seats - I especially missed the tight steering - I prefer cruise control on a stalk, not on the steering wheel I think - Why are our gauges and info screen in between them so small? - I really prefer our style of gas pedal that's mounted to the floor and gets pushed down and in as opposed to the kind that hang down from above the footwell and aren't attached to the floor if that makes sense - Um, dare I feel the need to even mention missing the power? - And I even missed the crappy idrive controls as apparently I have abnormally short arms, so when I have my seat in my ideal driving position, it makes it hard to comfortably reach all the way up high on the dash to change radio stations and such, so I always prefer the steering wheel controls or idrive buttons. Note - one thing that drove me nuts about the FRS/BRZ is there are NO buttons on the steering wheel. Any 1993 Pontiac even had radio controls on the steering wheel - Random thing - I hate hate hate doors with window frames. They shock the hell out of me every time I go to touch or close them when getting out of the car. It's awful and I find myself using my shirt half the time to prevent it. I think I had a few others that came to mind while driving that, but it was just getting progressively worse with each passing day and I hated it more and more and missed my car. Did not help that this morning I got to drive for the first time in 8 days (or 2300 miles, ironically the same # I have on my car), and found myself driving WAY too fast to work today. Also, it was REALLY noticeable to me today about the lag in the throttle response and was somewhat annoying. My 135is vs rental accord random thoughts of the day. I hate sedans and hope to never drive one. Same goes for minivans and wagons. |

There is a certain freedom in operating a rental car and having zero concern for racking up mileage or driving down unimproved backcountry roads or door dings or shopping carts or throwing suitcases with dirty wheels into the back or muddy shoes or spilling a drink, etc. But the driving experience was one of complete isolation from the road.

Let me know by the way Rick if you want that ebay coupon code I have if you indeed want to buy a set of the fancy caps. Might cost you like $13-14 total with free shipping. I have no use for it since I don't envision buying anything on ebay for my car anytime soon. Oh, and I was going to take the day off from work, but wanted somewhere to drive, so actually drove to work just to have somewhere to drive it to. Had 2 packages I wanted to get and we have a barista on staff, so free fancy coffee! |
