I was under the impression that all M cars have been and always will be N/A...
So either they need to come up with a new engine, or I dont see this happening. Keep in mind they wrang out the n/a e46 M3 I-6 at 333 hp. Thats only 33hp more than a 135i, which we all know is under-rated at 300hp. I just dont see it hapening with the current engine line up. And an all new I-6 would be a pricy investment for an entry M car... My .02 Just buy your 135i, chip it, and enjoy it...

I wouldn't be too suprised if an M1 were built, but it's tough to imagine the M3 V8 fitting in the 1-series engine bay.
A reworked 3.2 or 3.5 N52/53 might fit the bill, and along with all the other "M" treatments, you might have a car that peaks some interest. |

I agree a new version of the S54, using N53 engine technology (magnesium block, and direct injection) would be a much better candidate. |

I just can't see it. IMO the 135i is going to seriously cannibalize M3 sales, an M1 would only magnify the situation.
Oh well, time will tell I guess. I just want my 135i for now.

I dont see the sense of an M1 since the 135 is already gonna be fairly close to the new M3 anything done to improve the 1er will push it even closer of not past the M3 and I dont see BMW doin that. Although a lightened CSL version of the 135i would be nice, although America seems to always miss out on these.

Whoah... way to necro a thread! The M1 would be a mid-engine car! So if your talking in terms of the 1 series with high-performance orientated engineering, then your talking about the BMW Clubsport! Which is rumored to be 2 models. A full blown racing version like the Tii concept with a bigger engine and a modest priced version similiar to the 135i but sans anything heavy or luxury. BMW released their BMW Performance catalogue last week... a normal 135i can have a terrific upgrade path now.! |

What engine could the M1 possibly have? I don't see anything in the BMW lineup that would work.
The only thing I can think of is a tuned version of the N54B30, but that would only get maybe 30 extra hp out of the factory. The M3's V8 won't fit. I would expect it needs to have at least 350 hp to distinguish it from the 135i enough to charge a premium, and no more than 375 lest it beat up on the new M3. It just doesn't seem to have a place in their lineup. |

Are either of the above mentioned 4 cylinder engined cars being considered for the U.S.? Even if you can't respond to this post, thanks as always for your information. Leif W. |

I would now say an extremely slooow approach path. Hard to believe we have been hearing about the 1M1 for so long. Maybe the economy derailed the initial pathway, so hopefully it is back on track again.

Necroed?? I had to look it up since I thought you meant kill.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=necroing Its kinda fun to go back and see what was said especially about the upcoming 1M1 that has been upcoming for 2 years, and also since the inside person (Scott) has his finger on the pulse of BMW. Perhaps BMW should necro the M 1series.
