Most of you characters don't need more horsepower, what you need are better attitudes. Maybe you should go to church or at least talk with your clergy on a regular basis?
Regarding mods, it is a big mistake to do any while your car is in warranty. BMW can detect any tuning changes and refuse to do warranty work. My SA has the JB4 on his car, and he hasn't had any problems with it. Every time I come in for service, he always tells me how happy he is with it. There are men out there with big bucks that can afford this aftermarket crap. For example, I recently saw a new Dinan 750 at my dealer, and I nearly fainted when I saw the price. Most of the people on these car forums are backyard mechanics with little or no technical knowledge who hope they can spend a few buck for some cheap horsepower. They are doomed to fail and likely ruin their ride in the process. What they should stick to are cosmetic mods like wheels or exhausts. Anyway, the 135i is plenty fast enough. If you are a bone head and want to pursue mods, you should gain some technical knowledge before reaching for a wrench. Turbocharging is a complex subject and requires some serious study. Changing the fuel and timing maps and the level of boost can lead to all sorts of unintended consequences. Anyway, there are a couple of technical books written on the subject, and a better idea would be to enroll at a university and get a degree in mechanical engineering. |

Ok this is my new favorite. Aftermarket mods are bad because we are boneheads and need Jesus LMFAO.
The stock 135i is fast enough...for you. And the 128i is fast enough for some. Some of us are "real drivers" and like performance. Some of us care about more performance over some overhyped name. PRAISE THE LORD LET DINAN GUIDE ME! THEY READ ENGINEERING BOOKS! For the record my SA and friend has a JB4 on his X5, and as well as his brand new M3. He has UNLIMITED money for mods. I asked him why he chose the JB4 vs dinan when money is no object. His exact response "I want actual performance, not the gucci of car products". |

I'd love to see Jalopnik, //Drive, Motor Trend, etc. do a head to head of Dinan vs. Cobb or JB. Blinded testing would be even better. Run the car with one tune, change it to the other, run it again, taking measurements and driving impressions for each. Is this really asking for a lot? Or even better, do a long term test of each and let us know if anything breaks.
All you see are fluff pieces. Never head to head comparisons. I'm unimpressed, but I'm sure Dinan's CMO is happy you're donating to his boat fund.

Yep I know what you mean man. I was on JB4 for 6 months, good bang for buck but the funny idle, odd fuel rail noises and the likes I didn't want to live with anymore. But now I'm on Dinan and it's totally amazeballs and if my engine goes KABOOM I'm covered.

Yeah, I was at a BMW UDE event last weekend. Met a fellow 3er. Told him I went with Dinan and all the bells and whistles. He says, wish he did the same. The first day he installed a JB4 on his new 335xi, the dam JB4 broke the drive shaft. I felt bad for him. Spent $60K for a new car and breaks it with a $500 ducky gadget.

Oh and I don't post on the M5 forum since I don't have an M5... If I did I'd be debating with people on why go dinan vs JB4, but I don't start shit to start it, I just can't stand boneheads like you rubbing dinans nuts like a genie lamp until the mystical badge pops out so everyone knows just how cool your car is. Comments like "JB4 broke a drive shaft" just show that you have literally no idea what you are talking about. Literally all you do is link to dinan commercials. Show us some videos of all these secret races where dinan cars are overtaking JB4 tuned cars...oh wait...that has probably NEVER happened. Same with cobb, the superior cheaper tune if you want to go the flash tune route. Last edited by darkrom; 10-17-2014 at 07:43 AM.. |

I have no probably with Dinan. As I mention above if you do not have the time to do things yourself, learn more about the technical specifics of getting more out of your car, are scared of warranty issues and have the money to throw around to compensate for all of this then by all means go right ahead. Just don't think that spending more money for the same or less equips you to tell non-Dinan tuned owners they picked the wrong horse. If, however, you have the technical expertise or evidence to back up this claim put it up or shut-up. |

What a waste!
Only a chump would spend so much money on Dinan nonsense.
I see pictures of your expensive cars outside miserable little hovels likely in bad neighborhoods. At least the JB4 characters have a sense of value in their spending. Upgrade your lives not your rides! |
