So guys, since part number 25110434217 is discontinued, what was the consensus on the BMS Short shifter (http://burgertuning.com/short_shifte...5_335_535.html) for the 1M? Some of the posts above say it's "very similar" to the BMWP lever, but on the other hand some say that a 135i shifter will not fit on the 1M?
As I understand it, the BMWP lever itself can be used for both the N54 and N55 transmission, but the N54 will require the carrier. Does that mean the Burger motorsports lever linked above can be substituted also? Looking at the install pics, it seems that the BMS one has a nonstandard steel sleeve for the ball, and looks to lift the lever up, which is not the case with the BMWP lever... If you are weighing in, please state if you know for sure (ie. installed one), or are just giving an educated guess. Thanks! |

The metal shaft is also relatively soft so it's does not take a huge amount of force to bend given it's size. I placed the original shift lever in the picture here but the sizing is not the same as the replacement shaft. The short shift shaft is slightly smaller in dia. and obviously longer between the ball and trans link attachment point so the one shown does not fit into the channel correctly. Let me know if you need any other details. |

Perfect thank you!
This plus the n54 OEM stock lever for me will create a perfect OEM+ shifter with less reduction/a bit longer throw than the official 128i SSK stick and other SSK sticks for a 128i and the n55 135i/335i The n54 lever in the 128i is angled towards the engine/console more than I would like, so I will have to do this Bending to adjust it towards rear of car

Today, I came across this photo of various shift levers. You can see that the SSK's have a longer lever under the "ball". Z3M has the shortest throws. I had one on my e36 and it was really quite short. less than 45mm's I'd say from throw to throw. Just FYI for anyone who wants to try to make a SSK lever like @scotth944 did.

I know it's not a 1M, but for a 128, do I need to get both the bushing and lever to effectively upgrade to a SSK (and keep the stock knob and boot I have) or do I just need the lever itself?
Thanks for any input... Last edited by $iriu$black; 06-01-2015 at 12:31 PM.. |

The shift lever is like 80% of the feel/kit. But to get the total effect of a SSK... I would get both the shift lever and saddle arm. That's what BMW offered... so that is the way, I would recommend you to go. Dack

Thanks for the response Dackel! I guess I'm going to get all of what's in the set except the knob and boot to get the most out of it!

I'm sorry if I caused any confusion for 1M owners as I know this is a 1M thread. Just can't find one in the "general population" thread... I did check and yeah it does not seem to be available for a 1M there. |

Thread revival alert but wanted to contribute.
It's just a quick post to say thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, particularly Dack The relatively long throw on the 1M shifter has bugged me a little from day one, particularly since my 130i daily driver has the BMW short shift lever fitted and has (had) a much nicer feel to it. Anyway after reading just about everything ever written about 1M/N54/N55 short shift kits I thought I'd give the 130i/330i short shift lever (part# 25110434219) a go since the 135i short shift lever (part# 25110434217) is no longer available. Worked out well and very pleased with the results. The throw is much reduced, feels a little notchy but in a lovely direct 'mechanical' way. No problems with any weird off-set of the gear knob etc. For future reference here's a pic of the three levers I had available during the swap. |
