With a chip and exhaust in your opinion is an extra 100hp achievable? (just had a look at your web site and I guess that you wont be working with P/C or APS?) |

Andrew insisted that we re-dyno the car today. Wasn't as strong as before, but still a good gain. As I said previously, the proof is in the driving. It is much stronger! Anyway Andrew has the dyno graphs and all. This time it is correct and he got help from professionals like AussieRacer.
Anyway all this pales into insignificant today after doing the next mod as the test mule. |

Wouldn't say professional, just someone who uses a dyno around every two months and witnesses countless other dyno runs on what seems like every second weekend.
And like you've said WAY, the proof is in the driving. I'll give an example. The rules recently changed in my race series and I was allowed to start experimenting with air filters. So I went to a new BMC air filter that produced dyno results as good as it looks. In fact the change made more power than any engine before it in Vic. However on the track I was lacking top speed grunt!?!? One theory for it is that the change of the air filter has now exposed it in a different way to the air stream which is causing neg. pressure around the filter at high speeds. Can I ever test that on a dyno?.....hell no, as only driving it will let me know.

I have had to change the original 'After DP' chart as it was incorrectly done, and thanks to the Aussie Racer who helped me through the challenges i had, we have something for you guys. We do still have a few variants though, its been nearly 2 weeks since tests so results may be skewed a little, so i am again left to wonder the merit of this chart and also ambient temps were different too. We tried though to sort the issues, i hope you guys like the chart we have now. The owner and others that have driven it, including me and staff all believe there is no doubt about the way this car performs. I hope you take it for what it is.

I can tell you that it is working rather well. I have done almost 300km of "testing" and it is all good. Andrew is just cautious. I personally think it is fine!

I am up to about 470km since I put in the chip. It is pulling STRONG! Last night, my friend and I took his WRX out for a comparison. He has just had his WRX tuned by Vinnie from STI (those not local should note that Vinnie is THE MAN for Subaru tuning). His car felt sooooo slow compared to my 135i! I can't over emphasise how little push I get when we floored his car, and it felt flat throughout the rev range. He is so glad that his 135i will be arriving in 3-4 weeks and he can relegate the WRX as his company stock carrier haha. The downpipe and the chip is really working very nicely together. But Andrew tells me that the tuner is currently working on a version for catless DP which should be even sweeter. I have owned many very fast cars, and my 135i would be up there right now in terms of outright in gear acceleration.

May I ask those numbers you've put up in your sig, are those with your car in this current state or have you now moved beyond that car/engine state/tune since running that time ?? Just from your explanation above cpmparing to the tuned Wrx, it sounds like it should be alot faster than 4.95sec to 100km/h. I have a close friend with a tuned (chip/exhaust only) new Sti and it demolishes 0-100km/h in high 3's, does the 1/4 in 12.1sec. I know traction would be a main issue though... Apologies if you've already stated what I've asked somewhere else... |

That is when I first put the chip in. The car is definitely a lot faster than that. I reckon with a proper surface (instead of launching from the emergency lane of the freeway which is gravelly and dusty), without the passenger, I could get to low 4's. I was wheel spinning the whole way, and that isn't an exegeration! Lol. Our cars don't have the AWD grip of the STI so we won't be seeing that sort of numbers from our cars. But I dare bet you that we are faster than him with our in gear acceleration. Btw, how did he measure it? That makes a difference too.

With the power and torque outputs of tuned 135i's 3.0ltr engine and resultant power/weight ratio, I would totally agree that in gear acceleration would be better than a Wrx/Sti - just a pity about traction from standstill. My friend used one of those GPS devices being used alot these days - but he is also a regular dyno and track goer, his Sti is in the infancy stages of tuning and testing as they are only new here just like the 135i, he does plan on taking it to a track and running it as soon as he can. |
