41whp peak gain, seems a little on the low side compared to waht is advertised.

COBB Tuning no longer provides e-tuning. We have so much R&D tuning work to do that we could not offer this service consistently and maintain the level of effort needed to develop the products.

E-tuning is a service that you can purchase from many of the pro-tuners listed in our directory. You would need to contact a tuner of your choice to find out their process and price. For BMW, this service won't be available until AccessTUNER Pro is released and tuners purchase the software.

Thanks,

Gary

agreed, i might hang onto my jb4 and trial the cobb for a while if this is what real world is going to see.

the cobb should be here today, car in for service should have back by weekend; will probably have an unsupported ROM i'm guessing since it will probably get some stupid reflash again today and the i'll install it and be able to compare at least to the jb3 (i haven't installed my jb4 yet, still on the workbench).

41hp gain is weak? How about that 100ft/lb gain!!! Keep in mind, this is just stage1 for a bone stock car! Torque is what is going to throw you back into your seat. 100ft/lbs is nothing to sneeze at, especially when all you have to do is plug the device into your car, hit a few buttons and then BAM!!! Big power!

I think Shaggy's tune is different from the OTS maps, as he mentions, I have video of reaching 400+tq & 340+hp during the tuning portion with Rob..

Perhaps this was optimized for his specific car, drivability, etc...

What about us that want torque up top?

The reality is they got as much boost as they could under all stock hardware, and the turbo can push more boost at lower RPMs without putting out too much hot air (getting further out of inner efficiency island), so you end up having lots of torque down low (2000-4500RPM) and the turbo starts to put out a bunch of heat up top (4500-7000RPM) as it spins faster and faster to attempt to hold that same boost pressure to red-line.

Normally the octane of pump gas alone on stock hardware can't overcome that inefficiency (extra heat) of these tiny turbos up top, so they knock the boost down a few psi by redline to reduce chances of knock. (pre-ignition)

So, the torque drop happens from not only the turbos getting further out of their efficient range, but also from the tune/ECU dropping boost in the upper RPMs to prevent detonation.

If only BMW gave us a GTX3582R from the factory..........

Hey guys I just wanted to add a bit more to my post above. The car in question is an R&D car and the tune that is on the car was developed during our R&D process. This car baselined at 276hp and 286lb/ft of torque which is why you see the decreased delta for this particular vehicle. Rob categorized this vehicle as a "factory freak" as it made more power than any other stock 135i we have tested to date.

Here is the plot for this particular car compared to another stock 135i:

Here are two different stock vehicles compared to the 93octane OTS maps:

We will have more information and data as time goes on and we add more vehicles to our database. Be sure to surf around our dyno database and check out our other tunes as they become available!

No offense travis, but i could careless about DOWNLOW tq. I care about 4500 and up, the rpm band I use when it matters.
Either way, that dyno simply dies uptop compared to the one you have advertised.

Clap,

I completely understand that feeling. I will have Rob comment more completely on those results when he returns later today.

The results on the dyno database that I posted above are similar what users can expect from our stage1 maps. Ultimately when we tune a car, we try to keep in mind our customer's needs and desires. Rob is out tuning and doing R&D at the moment, stay tuned for more details!

I'm excited for what Cobb has in store for the N54 community. We actually ordered a stocking order from Cobb today. Can't wait!

Will the stage I work with a 135i with the BMW Performance Power Kit (similar to the 335is)?

Agree - the 135i dyno graph on the Cobb Web site shows the car gaining hp all the way to 6500 rpm - this is the only stock turbo graph I have seen where the motor continues to build power past 6000 rpm

How do we get upgrades when they come out? Do we just DL them from your site with a USB? I ask because if we dont get it form a dealer (we order it online from the COBB site), how to we get that continued support from the company?

We offer continued support in two ways. Firstly, we offer updated calibrations for download, for free, on our website. Just go to the BMW AccessPORT Product Page and navigate to the calibrations tab and download the desired map. We also offer a free update program, AccessPORT Manager 2.0, that will automatically update your AccessPORT when you click on the "Update" icon. In this way we can seemlessly update your AccessPORT without the end user having to send in their unit to HQ.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Be sure to check our our FAQ as well as it covers most concerns that have been brought up. Or give us a call at 1-866-922-3059 and we are happy to answer your questions!

If BMW reflashed my ECU with new software update while COBB reflash was on my car, do I need to reflash it with COBB aferward; then if I un-install the COBB, will it revert it back to the BMW reflashed new software?

If BMW flashes your car while the AP is installed, you need to resend your AP back to COBB for re-licensing.
