This will be a car in the 50s USD out the door, easy, and I am not spending that without an one off engine or more light weight materials used throughout the car because that's what BMW has offered, and us, consumers have come to expect. This isn't a TL-S or Audi A4 with S-line + APR. I want engineering I can't replicate easily without spending a fortune. |

They want turbo as Audi and the jap., BMW gives it they say it has lag so they want a high reving M car, a CSL. BMW gives them GTS they say it is nothing special, they could make better themselves for cheaper. They ask a supercar, BMW brings it out they don't like it (M1 Hommage).
I would really like to see how many of you have a faster, better driving and in the same time relaible M3 than the M3 GTS? I would also like to see how many of you have a faster, better driving and the reliable 135i than the 135M/M1? I would like to know who of you has a better X6 xDrive50i than X6 M? Of cours you all know everything better than BMW (I know some of you do). Now about he M1: M1 Coupé (E87) : 3.0l L6 Twin-Turbo 380 hp. M1 Hatch (F20) : 2.0l L4 Twin-Turbo 320 hp. The M1 we speek about is the one based on the actual generation and is the last car in this category to have 6 cylinders. The next 1 series will only have 4 cylinders. I really hope it will be called M1. I don't want the M1 to be a hybride supercar, but better a turboed E30. But I think BMW has to rename all models: All 0-9 series should be called B. Example: 135i ------> B1 sDrive35i 760i ------> B7 sDrive60i Z4 as is---> Z4 sDrive28i X5 as is---> X5 XDrive35d And so on it will give B1 (1 series hatch) B2 (1 series coupe/convert) B3 (3 series sedan/touring) B4 (3 series coupe/convert) B5 (3 series sedan/touring) B6 (6 series coupe/convert) B7 (7 series sedan B8 (8 series coupe/convert) Z2 Z4 X1 X3 X5 X6 M models should just have an M added as Z4----->Z4 M and X6----->X6 M In this way: M3 Coupé---->B4 M. And what for for it to be called M3, it will no more have high reving engines. All these M should just be as they are, like X5 and X6 M: big, comfortable, expensive, prestigious, powerfull, torquy and so. But BMW should reserect the real ones and call them M1, M3, M5 and maybe M12 for the McLaren F1. These should be high reving NA engines, very light cars without any comfort features, just as their predecesors: M1 (supercar): 3.5l L6 NA 455 hp, 1.100 kg M3 (coupé): 3.0l L6 NA 390 hp, 1.300 kg M5 (sedan): 4.0l V8 NA 500 hp, 1.500 kg M12 (hypercar): 6.0l V12 NA 750 hp, 1.000 kg |

Diesel is nice for people carrier or a daily drive if you drive lots of miles/km or if you use car for workhorse but for me that s about it. I see also no point of buying a big diesel engine for that purpose i would rather buy a 320d then a 335d. The money you save you can buy a second hand M3 as a weekend toy. That give more fun than 335d.

Audi already has the "B" B5, B6, B7, etc for their models.
I mean for YEARS BMW has used three numbers with letters at the end, why would they change it now?

I just hope they don't pull the same shit with the M1 as they did with the new 35is Z4 and only offer it in DCT. I just can't fathom driving an automatic sports car, I don't give a shit if it shifts faster, it's just not as much fun. 375hp, a LSD with better gearing, wider wheels/tires, 100lbs lighter...that'd be good enough for me. |

I too am a fan of engines the produce linear torque and can do it at high revs. There has been a trend to produce DI turbo engines that produce prodigious torque at low rpms at the expense of high rpm power, where I think it's easier to modulate throttle. However, your statement above is simply going too far. "Russian roulette"? "Impossible"? C'mon. |

I believe the M1 will come with more standard equipment, just to make manufacturing easier. So I would think it's base price would be in the neighborhood of $45k, optioned out @ $57k...

That would make the base price near the top of the 135i range and the Loaded price at the bottom of the M3 range base price.... and I agree with you 100%.
