They want 15 Euros a day for internet at the hotel we are in. We will be home tomorrow, expect our feeling on the car, and its caracteristics Sunday. I didnt think it would be this hard to get cheap/free internet. Everyone keeps there wifi locked here

TRUTH. I've said this in other threads.... For folks in the US.. this really is quite a culture shock not having WIFI available at the nearest restaurant and even in your hotel. Actually.. it's completely maddening because there IS WIFI available.... but it's expensive at $10-15 Euro per day.... When Jason CSU and I were in Munich, we practically camped out at a Starbucks for about 2 hours soaking up the free WIFI.... and the scenery was nice as well.

I'm heading over next Thursday, similiar trip, 2 days at the Ring, Porsche in Stuttgart, Welt in Munich, and we're planning to do the Stelvio pass then onto a Ferrari factory tour in Maranello.

For the Stelvio Pass, do you know if it's posted online anywhere as to whether it's open or not? And if you don't mind, what was the other road you took when it was closed?

Weather looks like it's in the 15-20C range, so hopefully it's open by mid May.

Also, for cell/data, did you guys look at just getting a local pay as you go sim card for your phones (iphone 4 specifically)? That's what we've been told works best, but would be good to know if it worked for you.

Looks like a great trip, and the 1M is getting some great press, and the recent Hockenheim lap (0.1s faster than the M3) is a real eye opener!

This is a german site. "Offen" means open, "WINTERSPERRE" means closed for the winter, "Gesperrt" means closed.
Stelvio pass is called "Stilfser Joch"

Looks like it's currently closed, but I know this is about the time it opens, so hopefully the gate is open when we get there. Too bad about Nav, but sounds like he found a great alternate.

Nav, if you recall the actual road you bypassed on, still would like to know in case Stelvio is still closed.
