AHL2 EU headlight Coding...

So mine's a 2013. AHL2_Enable worked perfectly, beam changes when I speed up. But it's still not as bright as the EU version. At least that's how it feels.
Unless you have done the TRC comparison of the readouts?

Like I have said before I am no coding expert. But I believe you need a FRM3 module for this to work properly.

Okay, after investigating this some more, it seems that there is a difference in the lights between USA and EU, that's not just coding...

EU cars seem to come with http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=63112296303

The lowe powered version of the Xenons.

So while this coding gives you the moving headlights (which absolutely works!) it doesn't give you the increased brightness the EU lamps have.

Now I need to start saving for those EU lamps ... :|

IDK... you are talking about xenon bulbs here in your above link. Not the headlamp housing(s).

As far as I know... other than US car's having orange side reflectors... the EU and US headlamps are the same. It's just the coding that is different. ie: whether the side marker light stays on with the headlights(like on US lights) and that the US high beam output is reduced from what the EU lights put out.

There is also TWO EU xenon head lamps... AHL and non AHL. In the US we only got the AHL xenons.

Just chiming in to say that this site is amazing. I just bought a 335d that had the AHL2 coding already performed by the previous owner. I was looking for more info on the normal operation as well as the proper base-aiming instructions (they're aimed a little too high) and found all that here in this thread.




There was lots of talk in here about the high beams actually being brighter (maybe overdriving the ballasts?) But no confirmation. In the years since this has been posted, has anyone done any LUX testing to confirm or deny this?

Someone enlighten me. Pardon the pun.

My car comes with adaptive lights/cornering lights. When going to the massive list of parameters of the FRM modele, I stumbled on this AHL2_ENABLE one. Which then brought me to this topic. But this is set to Not Active.

Maybe I read over it, but how does AHL2 differ from AHL(1). My car is a EU (German market) car.

Some post suggest AHL2 is for right hand driving. It makes the drivers side light turn left, which would be appropriate for RHD, as this would be towards the non-traffic side. On LHD cars this would mean you are shinging towards oncoming traffic.
Then again, the listed options NCS Dummy don't mention JAPAN for example as seen on RHD specific options. Nothing there suggest this is a LHD/RHD function.

I live in the US and purchased new to me OEM headlights that came from milaysia. They are EU spec with the clear corners. The DRLs don’t work. Do you know how to code the FRM to activate the DRL’s? I have Protool and purchased the coding license.

AHL or Adpative Head Light II, were first introduced on the e6x european models. The headlights will have a wide angle beam pattern at low speeds while have a narrow long throw pattern at high speeds(above 110 km/h). But BMW chose not to offer this feature on US spec cars. I don't know why(US DOT maybe?).

While at our Welt 4.0 car show... Frank from Car-Coding.de was coding some of our Euro 1Addicts member cars. One thing he told us about is that IF we have the euro headlight switch which activates the rear brake fogs... he can code our AHL to AHL2 euro specs.

Now my headlights not only move side to side like before(when the headlight switch in is the AUTO position) but BOTH headlights will now move up and down as well! When you turn on the headlights the thing you notice first is the low beams point outwards at about ~40' angle. After driving a few times at night - I am sold on this mod. Just thought I would share it with you guys and get the word out. Maybe US coders can start to offer this. ?

Frank also coded my brake lights to the Adaptive German specs, which at high decel rates, my third brake light will now flash rapidly and the inside rear brake fog lights will momentarily light up for a second or so(in addition to the outer brake light bulbs)in the tail lights.

NOTE: the car MUST be running in order to see the driver's side low beam move outwards. When you only have the key fob switch on... the headlight will only move up and down. As see here...
