These things are no joke. Didn't want to strip it with impact, and now I'm guessing my impact wouldn't have got it anyway.
36mm socket, 3ft breaker bar, 3ft jack handle. Jackstand for fulcrum effect. Cleared everything behind me in case I went flying backwards. Tapped the little pieces on the side of the nut back in place, which was so rusted it was alot more than taps. Rocking it with all my weight and it finally moved a 1/4 turn and then I impacted it off. Other side was the same. Now to get the axles out. New tool coming for that. Don't want to mushroom it with a hammer. New axles are 190ft lbs back on

Yikes. That suckers was rusted into on piece. I have had done tough ones but I don’t see rust like that. Well done 👍

Headlight restoration... they look brand new now. Going to cover with Laminx so that hopefully the car will never need it, at least not while I still own it.

This happened a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't really want to talk about it at the time. We were parked on a quiet residential street overnight when a pickup truck clipped one parked car, then piled into another parked car, causing a chain reaction of collisions. One car had to be towed. It was a hit-and-run: the pickup fled the scene, disappeared down a side street.

So now the trunk is tied shut with a rope, and the car won't be leaving our garage for a few months. My repair is now scheduled for September 27!!!

Damn man that sucks ass. This is why when having a smoke outside I'm keeping an eye on passing cars just because of this. And the constant break-ins...

So if I appreciate that post does that mean I support your car getting hit?

When I walked out to the car in the morning, I first saw the driver's mirror and front fender on the SUV (see right side of photo), and my first thought was, I'm so glad our tiny car is shielded by that big pickup truck parked behind us (left side of photo). It wasn't till I got much closer that I could see all the damage. That white pickup in the photo wasn't involved - they parked there after the other cars were removed.

Living on an island surrounded by salt water and throw in cold winters with lots of salt on the road and always having older cars. I've become a rust specialist. Lol

ugh, that sucks - especially because now you have to wait 3+ months of summer for the fix, and you'll have a mark on Insurance records
Sorry

Bike rack and cross bar install. OEM crossbars are great. Cheap universal bike rack from Amazon….not so much. After much tweeting and a run to the hardware store I got it to “work”. All this because I didn’t want to run a fork mount as I had one on my e46 m3 and it always seemed a bit unsafe/wobbly.

Finishing up front calipers. Got the piston boots in but having some trouble getting the back of it fully seated around the piston. Gonna be a bit before I can order pads and rotors.

Carriers done too, just no pic. But both pieces were sanded to look nice and smooth. Did want to share what I've done to my wrenches. Idea courtesy of HumbleMechanic on YT. Painting in on the logo and mm size and stuff to help the wrenches stand out a little more when glancing at them while looking for the one I need. I try to find a paint in the brands color of choice. So green for S*K tools or red for my craftsmen. This one needs a touch up on the other side.

True enough, I just had to get the car in and out of the shop as quickly as possible and work with what I had (which was 20mm spacers and bolts that were too long to run w/out them).

Looks nice!

I have been quite torn on whether I should go roof rack or hitch rack. Hitch rack is much more stable (plus lower CG!) but roof bars w/ bike rack is so much easier / easy to remove.

Haha, just installed my downpipe this week and my ratcheting wrench was a life saver. Mine is not stubby but has flex head so that really helped..... Lining that DP up was a bit of a bitch eh!

Catless will definitely cause a lot of exhaust smell, I was actually replacing the catless DP (installed by PO) with a catted VRSF downpipe.

SOoooo moral of story, installed downpipe and exhaust.

Does catless downpipe cause excessive exhaust smells or do I have a leak?

I like the roof rack because I can take it off when I’m not using it. The hitch racks typically stay bolted to the chassis and don’t look super sporty imo. Though you could crawl under and take that on and off as well. I have a basket also that I can swap out and gives some extra space for road trips or camping etc.
