Spent the weekend getting car prepped for AutoX/HPDE season.
  • Whiteline rear subframe inserts
  • Differential fluid
  • Manual trans fluid (50/50 ATF/MTL)
  • Oil change
  • Whiteline front sway bar
  • Whiteline adjustable end links (struggled to adjust properly due to car being so low)
  • Knockout strut alignment pins and pushed struts out as far as I could

Upcoming: M3 control arms, brake pads and rotors, SSBLs, 3 stage intake, starter, power steering reservoir, OFHG.

While underneath, lots of oil (not all that surprising), think I'll need oil pan gasket soon.

Quick drive and really impressed with suspension changes and transmission.

Car did great, other than it turns out I made the wrong decision in not going with race fluid for the brakes. I knew it was a roll o' the dice, but I didn't figure I'd be doing enough heavy braking often enough at PIR to need it. I was wrong. Kept losing the brakes going into turn 2A after 4-5 hot laps – taking it easy for a lap got them back to "good enough" for another hot lap, but that was it. Lesson learned.

As for the driver upgrade, there was significant progress throughout the day. I figured out 2A/2B well enough to consistently not get it *all* wrong, found a great flow through 5A, 5B, and 6, and now know that I need to work a lot on 3A/3B next time. I had a little off in 3B in the very last session of the day when I was experimenting with taking 3A/B in 2nd, but otherwise made it through without incident.

I've been wanting to do a track forever, but just never got around to it. So glad I can finally check that box, but of course that's not the end of it. Way too much fun to just do once.
Did you use a recording app? TrackAddict, etc? Post video or link if possible! I've done the Greer,SC PerfCtr AutoX a few times in 318is and 128i, great fun

Got the shroud made to seal up the IC nicely with the 1m bumper. Conversion almost complete now! Took a couple ideas from fe1rx so thanks for the build thread!

No, but I'll be thinking about it before the next time. Hardly even occurred to me before this first time; I was more focused on making sure I'd checked all the other boxes: Fluids, pads, driver (!), etc.

New Turner front sway bar end links to replace the Bimmerworld pair. No more clunks, thank you Jesus. Did hopefully set the sway bar to the closest to correct position and the rear too. WAY happier now.

Failed to replace my engine air filter. These two things are not the same.

Guessing I inadvertantly ordered the N52 version but I have the N51. Also need to order 2 airbox screws, as mine was missing one and had something not OE for another.

Update: looks like I ordered the 135i Air Filter not the 128i. My fault: i had my 'vehicle' set as the 135i because I was shopping rotors and pads, as I'm about to install 135i brakes on my 128i.

First AutoX of the season. Car feels so much better with suspension updates and better tires. Driver needs a lot of work but I felt like the car was not the limiting factor as it was last season. I have to figure out how to overlay GoPro video with trackaddict. My runs were pretty consistent, but I'm not sure if that is bad or good. I had an instructor ride along with me on my last run which was really helpful. Need to ride along with some others to see how they are different at the next event.

HPDE upcoming at Pitt Race next month so need to focus next maintenance work on stopping (calipers, pads, fluid, lines).

Very easy! I used this thread for gaining access to the button... https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209558

Then I just used a box cutter to cut three of the four little tabs off the back of the button. I can't find any pics (and I didn't take any during the process) but it's pretty self explanatory once you gain access to it.

The top left tab is a little tough to get access to, so I did the other three tabs first and then just broke the last tab by pressing down on the button.

I read online that this trick only works for 2011+ 1 series. 2008-2010 will need a whole new Euro Switch? Unsure of the validity of that but it worked on my 2011...

If it's rainy after work today (which I think it will be), maybe I'll take it apart again and take some pics along with pics of the rear fog in use.

Thanks, did you get a new switch or new button w/ fog symbol, or just use existing blank button?

If you have one of the switches without the plastic LEGO-y bit behind the rear fog blank, I have an already-modified switch I don't need that you can have.

Love it. Absolutely addicting isn’t it?

Unfortunate about the brake fluid, I run Motul 600 and have no issues with it getting hot. I’ve had issues with my pads though, so I’d recommend investing in those too

Threw this Flow Designs splitter on, absolutely love the look. In other news I picked up the car from the shop this morning after having the door lock actuator replaced, the bill was eye watering
