New cluster in, coded, needles calibrated, good to go! Also got the rebuild kit for the front f30 calipers, just waiting on rear rebuild kit.

Good luck! They accepted mine, but then I ended up selling it locally to a coworker friend and so it didn't get quite as far as actually writing the auction itself. |

It’s for sale on BMWCCA and I’ve had some interest but no one has really stepped up to give a workable offer. So, BaT it is… Edit… not really sure why it’s censoring reference to the amount of space my garage has??? Last edited by CoralRed; 05-20-2024 at 11:09 AM.. |

I had mine for 13 years and loved it, but got the itch for something different. At about 10 years I started considering another car, and it took like 3 more years to decide on one (new Z4 with a manual). My coworker said if / when he sells it someday I'll be first to know in case I want it back haha. If I actually had a huge garage for a lot of cars I'd likely have kept it and gone the next steps to prep it for an occasional track day or autocross. I expect the Z4 to be pretty great as well, but definitely different. Not better or worse, just great, and different. Fingers crossed anyhow.

Replaced the hood release cable. Wow, what a pain in the ass to get that grommet seated correctly in the firewall. At least my hood opens now with the upgraded aluminum lever rather than a screwdriver through the grill….

My hood release cable snapped a few years ago. Luckily I only had to replace the front segment (under the hood), not the piece that goes through the firewall. Everything I've read about replacing the cable through the firewall sounds like it's definitely a PITA.

If I had to do it again, now that I know what’s involved, I would just pull the old cable and housing out of the old rubber grommet, leaving the grommet in the firewall. Then just pushing the new cable and housing through the old one. It was very difficulty to get the new grommet to seat properly. Didn’t want to risk water getting through, which I’ve seen happen on the forums because it didn’t seal the hole in the firewall. But it’s done now and hopefully this cable will last a long time. |

In my case the actual steel cable hadn't snapped. It had been slowly stretching for years, and the plastic coupling at the hood latch had been pulling apart, exposing the cable to moisture intrusion. I think it had started before I bought the car (I was amazed how easy it was to open the hood after I replaced the cable). Eventually the plastic coupling finally let go - in the photo you can see the plastic had pulled apart and finally snapped into 2 parts. I was surprised how badly the cable had rusted.

Aren't there a couple lubrication points on the hood release cable/housing that need attention every so often? Will look in diy . . .

I’m very curious about the manual z4. I look forward to your thoughts on it! If we didn’t already have an s54 m roadster (it loves at my parents house) I’d be all over it. |

Picked up some Alcantara interior trim pieces…
I guess while I’m at it I should look into a Alcantara steering wheel, rear seat delete, half cage and racing seats… |
