Several of the Amazon reviews mentioned this breakage.

Might be worth trying first, then you don't have to change drain plugs and crush washers. Speaking of, make sure you use a fresh crush washer since the threads will be less leak-proof.
After further investigation, it appears that 6MT N52 cars have a steel oil pan and that the threaded portion for the drain plug is an insert of some type (welded?) as shown in the pic below. I think my accidental over-tightening broke that insert which is why it's spinning when I try to remove it.

In simple terms, I'm hosed and the pan has to be removed and probably replaced.

I don't really remember. I probably torqued it to whatever the spec is. Or maybe just "gutentight?" It has been five years on the E91 and three on the E82 and both working as intended.

Stunning looking wheels.

I thought the offset wasn’t good for the 1. No major poke?

I'm stubborn. Hold it in place, drill out the spot welds that failed, spot weld it back to the pan without removing anything. Good prep will be necessary (that's 90% of all welding), and be sure to paint it when it's done.

Is this a bad idea? Hey it's only stupid if it doesn't work. Right now you're looking at a new pan, which isn't the end of the world, but it is a pain in the ass on these manual cars. FYI you can swap an automatic pan on there, you'll have to dig for the info but it's definitely possible, and WAY cheaper than a new manual pan.

No. The pictures speak for themselves. I do have the rear, narrow hub conversion.

I see.

Have seen topics on this wheel before and it came down to don't fit.*

I'm totally new to the E8x chassis. Busy doing a crash course in it.

Narrow hub conversion is one of those things. Totall new to me. Sounds interesting. Being able having a proper staggered setup with a nice deeper dish on the rear would be awesome.

How much mm do you win on each side?

* my bad, I now see they are Apex wheels. The "don't fit" was about some BMW wheel that looks very familiar, but I forgot the wheel style number.

Had my neighbor's mechanic friend put it on a lift and he couldn't remove it either, so he removed the pan to assess the damage... Turns out that the aluminum magnetic Dimple plug's threads were stripped by the steel pan and not the other way around, so all he had to do was cut off the aluminum plug. The threads on the pan very minimal damage, so the pan was reinstalled and a stock plug was installed with no visible leaks. Talk about dumb luck.

Sorry my friend. If it's a N54 or 52 I encourage you to consider rebuilding they're special.

Ordered parts to do 1M strut reinforment conversion. Probably won't be noticable, but once I saw it, I just wanted it. Looks so good.

It’s a 54. I do agree they’re special.

Best case scenario, my hope is that a turbo oil line broke.

We’ll see!

I’m glad you said it. I’m just not on board with ditching a N54 with another LS and having my car sound like a fishing boat.

I got bored of my 991.1 PDK GTS and stopped driving it with intent to sell. I also firmly believe that if you don't look back at a car after you park it you should get rid of it.

Fast forward a month...

Saw a 1990 Manual C4 964 with less than 100k on the clock and some nice OEM Porsche upgrades at my local dealer. So I chanced it and met my hero. We swapped almost even trade on saturday.

What a car! I've wanted one since I was little. Dream come true. Lots of work to do but very little restoration work needed. Story was it came out of a large estate collection of cars, not sure how Porsche got their hands on it but it's in excellent shape.

Has a ton of personality and soul compared to the 991.1. very much matches the E82 compared with modern BMW.

No Ragerts
