Went on a coffee run, and the ~350,000 km (217,000 miles) original water pump finally gave out.

Can’t even be upset. Honestly, it’s kind of poetic. It waited until I was just 15 minutes up the road from my mom’s garage, where I’ve been keeping it.

Like everyone says... no warning, no codes. Just before it happened, I noticed the RPMs surge briefly at a red light. The light turned green, I started moving, and the yellow temp warning came on. Cranked the heat inside the cabin, but nothing. No warmth, just airflow. Then came the red temp light. Pulled over, and the fans were going full blast, like a jet engine.

Hopefully, it’s just the pump. I’ll try the bleed procedure later.

The fans didn’t go full blast when starting the car after the tow to move it into the garage.

The only concerning thing is the lack of heat inside the cabin—maybe the heater core?

Guess it’s true if you don’t drive these cars, they break.

And, that $200 coffee—thanks to the tow— was mediocre at best. lol.

Didn't even think to ask until he showed up! The driver was a cool younger guy with an E39 and E36. He was like, 'Don't worry, I'll go slow,' and said dispatch would've charged an arm and a leg for a flatbed.

No heat could either mean no flow, or no fluid. Looks like a leak test is first in order. Maybe it's just a hose or something?

Also, nice to see some affirmation that I'm not crazy for refusing to replace mine as preventative maintenance. At 140k with no record of mine being changed. Really seems like random chance, very little correlation to age/mileage. My plan is just to replace most of the cooling system once the first thing fails.

Definitely was full of coolant, and the hoses were firm. I’m guessing the pump just seized up. Or even that the thermostat failed because it sounded like something was "boiling" when i loosened the cap a bit.

You can always ask for them to use the dolly wheels, they're right there on the top of the truck.

Bummer though, I just had mine towed last week for a ruptured oil line - quick fix.

Looking good dude! Keep us posted on your progress!
Yea dropping the subframe and swinging it out of the way is something I went back and forth on. After doing so, there will be no hesitation in the future as there is so much room to work.

Anxious to get the front on, fill the fluids and start it up and look for leaks. I only have a few hours every week to work on it though, so it’s been slow going to say the least.

No heat is just no flow to the heater core.

Replace everything. At 200+k id replace all the hoses too they dry rot.

Brutal! You will definitely remember that coffee run

But 350k-km’s is probably the best plastic part in that car! I wouldn’t be mad either at that duration.

I hear ya! Wish we did the same.

We took about a month total, chipping away a couple hours whenever we could. I’d say total hours actually worked was about 20. Ran into some annoying seized bolts, which is to be expected.

I’ve got one of these and one of the shorter weighted knobs. Started off with the taller one in my e61 and the shorter one in the 128. The shifting was so much more precise in my 1 than the e61, so I decided to swap them.

The shorter one in the wagon makes the shifting feel much better. It’s strange, I know they’re both the same weight, but the shorter one makes the shifter feel much heavier. That’s porbably due to the extra height creating more leverage making it feel lighter.

Either way, the transmission in the 128 is MUCH more precise than one in the e61.

It would need to be paired with a proper SSK. If putting a short knob on a SSK with height and throw reduction with reinforced mount points you end up with something too short and too notchy. Adding height and weight up top increases leverage again giving a great rifle bolt feel.

I'd imagine this knob would be terrible on a stock linkage/arm/bushing setup.

Houston, we have a problem.

Smelled oil coming form the air vents and sure enough oil is spewed everywhere, it’s even on the car itself. Damned OFHG, oil cooler lines, and so on and so forth. This is such a major flaw on the N55.

I’m not mad at the car. I’m just mad I couldn’t diagnos and catch it earlier (because I just replaced all of gaskets relating to this barely 1000 miles ago).

Each one is well over $200 on fcp unless you found an alternative that is cheaper but works! Send my way please.

You gotta admit coilovers sounds better than lowered suspension.

People probably wouldnt even venture to look underneath the examine it.

They could have said 'sport tuned' suspension or something. If coilovers is the part that attracts a potential buyer, that's probably the first thing they'll look at...

That car looks awesome though - great stance..
