Crunches 2nd gear synchro on fast shifts. I wonder what will happen first: BMW fixes their 2nd gear grind on M cars or they stop offering MT altogether?

Bad on E46 M3, horrific on Z4M, bad on E9x M3, occasionally reported on F8x M3/M4...

I can shift a Mazda 3 faster into 2nd than I could my Z4M. Didn't have this problem with a 135i I drove though.
I've done it a couple times on my 340i too...

FWIW most 2nd gear shifting issues are easily resolved with better engine and tranny mounts.
My car is a dream to shift now since upgrading to Vibra-Tech engine mounts and poly tranny mounts.

I'm sure the same benefits would be realized in this application.

107 MPH for the 1/4 mile would not be acceptable for me to buy this car. 115 MPH to consider buying this car so that with a tune it could hit 120 MPH and then you would be talking about owning a pretty fast car.

If that is your criteria, there are much better choices for you. I don't think the M2 is all about straight line speed, or else they would have made it more powerful than 365 HP. It's the entire package, handling etc.

As soon as I noticed the ban [of IEDEI] I immediately inquired and asked whether the ban could be lifted. To no avail. I'm no moderator.

So yes, he will be back later this year. Hopefully he still wants to join again.

Yes the 435 had no issues with being slammed into second.

First off I shouldn't have to install new bushing and so forth on a brand new
M car, I am so upset I've been waiting for over a yr and now have to hear
this crap. I owned a 2006 M3 Cs and it would also grind going into 2nd
Gear if shifted to fast, cars half the price can be shifted faster, come on really !!! They could have fixed this it's now.
Its Obvious they want us to buy Dct. I hate being forced to buy something I don't want.

And while you are changing those, try some Redline trans fluid inside.

BMW differentials and transmissions typically benefit from redline fluids

Didn't it do it at 113? Its right in the title... unless I am missing something... and this is the 6 speed... wouldn't the DCT hit a slightly higher number even?

Lol this thread is hilarious... does anyone actually have a valid reason for wanting one car over the other?

Having owned a 135i and 335i in my past, I always preferred the dynamics of the 3. the longer wheelbase always made the car feel more stable in almost every situation and made the car less jumpy and snappy. Going on this past experience, I could never have another short wheelbase car... I guess we all have personal preferences.

I guess a Cayman GT4 would be to jumpy and snappy.

The reality is that the M2 is simply a 1M for the masses.....nothing more nothing less. Will it be a good car? YES. Is it worth having a stroke over? NO.

If i was currently in the market for a $55k BMW.....i would STILL buy a used 1M. over and over and over again......

My dealership keeps pestering me trying to get me into an M2 and said they will give me the first allocation and great pricing on it.....and i have 0 interest.
You should call out your dealer's bluff and tell them that you would only do a straight-up trade of your 1M for their first M2.

His dealer wouldn't believe him for a second knowing that, in his eyes, the 1M is the holy grail of automobiles.

And rightfully should be for every M2 owner as well. Without a successful 1M... There would be no M2 .. And it's clear BMW AG didn't change the ingredients much other than adding more tech.
