infamous sunroof rattle

any fix?
bought the car second hand, and at 13000 miles, it's got a rattle in the headliner behind the sunroof.
Any ideas?

Driving on the rough streets of NYC with runflats doesn't help....

No solution, just adding a "me too".

I get no rattle with the sliding cover fully closed, but sliding back the cover even slightly causes the rattle to appear.

my current car had this issue where the cover rattled if it was in any position but fully closed. the solution with a little insulating tape to shore up the rails it slides on. if you want to see if this might be the case, slide it open like normal and shove something against the rail to see if it stops.

Show some pics of what you did for me to visualize it. This is exactly my issue.

I have had mine checked at least 3-4 times, with no resolution. It seems to be a sensitive to temperature too (I think). A week ago, I was nearly ready to find something new to drive.

Mmm.... Anyone have further input on a fix? I don't want the dealer to start tearing things apart only to not find anything and mess up putting it all back together again...

Unfortunately, I don't know of a fix - but I will say I have the same issue...it's not a deal-breaker, but definitely annoying.

Sunroof rattle

I had mine in seven times to fix the rattle and finally they stuffed enough padding in there to quiet the rattle. The minute that the temperature dropped in October, it was back. It is the only thing I don't like about my car

I have an appointment tomorrow morning also. I want to bring up the sunroof rattle. For me It only happens when the car has been sitting in the sun for a little bit, and its slightly warm.

I'll open the sunroof tilt up ( not completely open just the tilt) and it will creak and rattle like crazy then after about 5-10 min of driving the rattling disappears and stops.

Sounds like it is related to fluctuation of temperature, it almost sounds like its the glass itself creaking and rattling. The odd thing is that it goes away after sometime. Anyone able to figure this one out... I'm gonna have a tough time explaining this one to my tech tomorrow morning!

I have creaking only when the sunroof is at full tilt up, just by reducing the tilt down a fraction completely solves it, but it shouldn't occur when it's in full tilt.
I lubed where I could but to no avail, I'm sure it's a simple fix providing I know exactly where to lube. Any ideas.

I had the rattle in the headliner behind the sunroof. They dropped the headliner and re-glued the spacer blocks that came unglued. No rattle from it in over 2 years.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but can you please post exact text from your receipt indicating repair performed? I have a rattle in the headliner when the sunroof is fully open and it's driving me nuts!

Cheers,
Bryan

I had my sunroof open last week for the first time since owning this car and WOW was I pissed. Having owned german cars with sunroofs before I should've expected it, but I didn't know the rattle was that bad. Obviously something I can live with and ignore, but that's the only con for my otherwise perfect 1er.
