yup, E46 M3 trunk is PERFECT for two 50lb sand bags laid down length wise between the rear strut towers... I put down 2 + 2... and its right over the rear axle... you would be amazed at how well the car performs in the snow... So well in fact that the only thing hampering my snow driving abilities is the ride height. I drove straight through unplowed roads last year... it becomes a friggin tank. Like equivalent to my ML55's snow going abilities

When the white stuff starts to stick... you are welcomed to give it a shot...I'm in Lincoln so not too far away from you

First impressions with the Dunlops are not a louder ride at all or a complete squishy feeling to the ride but simply less harshness over bumps and imperfections...definitely a nice improvement! The warm temps and the brand new tires that havent been broken in lead to some tendency for the DSC to kick in under harder acceleration with any steering input for now, will see how that changes after a few miles.

I am also very happy with the work done at Auto Engineering in Lexington. The shop was very professional, the mounting looked great, they used nice wheel balances (not the iron-age blocks from the factory) and so far the balance appears to be spot on.
I second that. My DSC light is coming on constantly!

Also the ride is a HUGE improvement. Like somebody dialed it back a few clicks. Haven't has a change to check the handling too much. I'm hoping the tires still have some lubricant on them which would explain the slipperiness. Tires are spinning pretty frequently. Also, the change from 245 to 205 might be having come effect.

Switched to Dunlop Winter Sport 3D

Exchanged my 2-week old Blizzak WS-60s for the Dunlops. My car is back! These are so much better - feel just like the summer tires. I know I'm giving up some winter grip but I couldn't stand the feel - or lack thereof - of the Blizzaks.

Oh, I meant to post that I did my switchover on Saturday. It was nice weather and not too chilly to work outside for an hour. I knew colder weather was coming and rain and I didn't know when I'd have a good opening in my schedule again.

And while swapping them out, I discovered another one of those purple plastic rings around the axle on the front passenger side. It was the last tire I did and I was so filthy and worn out by then that I just wanted to get the tire on and not go looking for something to pull it off with, so I left it there. It will have to be a project for my pit crew at a future autocross or spa day.

Finally got around to putting on the winters this afternoon... too much traveling recently.

If you look closely, you will see that I haven't even had a chance to take off the cone marks...

I have to say the Dunlops really come alive in 30-35 degree range, almost seems like they are grippier than at higher temperatures. I did not have a chance to take it through the snow last night, but I am already sporting the lovely winter grime detail along the sides of the car. Since I can't wash it right now I just keep trying to tell myself the grime is a rally-inspired decoration.

One other thing I notices when I was changing over was I lost the passenger side jacking cup. Has anyone replaced this? I assume it is a few screws or just a snap in thing? Maybe a cone got it at the last autox...

I came across a thread a couple threads a few weeks ago that referred to how frequently and easily the plastic jacking covers come off. Probably not a huge deal but if you're OCD like me, you'll probably be able to find a replacement floating around ebay or something.

I've had my LM-22s on 17" ASAs on for over a month now and it was finally put to good use yesterday. Snapped a few pics in my parents' driveway this morning.

Last week while comming back up to Syracuse I decided to have some fun and take some twisty back roads home.

Glad I opted for Winter performance tires a bit more than dedicated snows, because it was a lot of fun.

There's a single plastic push clip at the center of each jacking pad that hold it to the car. I know there's one laying around Devens off of my car.

Yeah, I figure that is where mine end up. It is probably not coincidence that it's the same side of the car with a cone mark half the way down.

I went ahead and ordered a new one, I think it was $11 before shipping. Kind of expensive for a plastic piece, but probably better than risking my rocker panels with a small block of wood.

My 325iS with Michelin Pilots was a joke in the snow. Anything more than 1/2" and the tires would just spin. My 128i came with Pirelli P Zeros that I expected to be even worse. I bought a set of wheels and Michelin x-ice xi2 winter tires for the 128i and today I had a chance to try them in the snow and ice. The skill level required to drive in the snow is way less because of traction/stability control. It actually drove great with no wheel spin or skidding. When I have a chance and an open parking lot I will turn all of the electronics off and have a little fun!

The caddy did just fine yesterday in the snow. LM-22's are the $hit! It was actually a lot of fun spinnin donuts in the parking lot at work before everyone else got there

There was no snow here, only something resembling a slushee. No fun to be had unfortunately.
