Dead tachometer

2009 128i (Canada)

My tach has been intermittent for a few months, and now is completely dead. The rest of the cluster works as expected. Doing the KI TEST in the gauge menu confirms that everything else works, however the tach needle doesn't move.

It seems that swapping another cluster from a 128 requires coding and programming to make it work properly. What kind of effort would it take to simply swap out the tach electronics from one cluster to another?

Issue has self-resolved (again), and a bad ground wire has also been located and replaced which hopefully was the culprit.
