WTB 128i automatic Sport Pkg coupe
My wife's Year-One-of-the-One Alpine White Sport/premium was totaled last week. I'm still dealing with the insurance company over the settlement and the salvage and she's now driving my E28 535i stick. She suffers from an arthritic left knee and won't want to be driving a stick for very long and she truly loved her 128i. So, we're looking hard for another. She (we) want a Sport Package car for the sport seats which she feels really protected her in the accident. We're not locked-in to colors but hers was Alpine White with Black Boston leather. I won't buy anything that doesn't have leather seats, either. Prefer Xenons, too.
If you know of a good example for sale that might fit, please let us know. Willing to travel. I bought hers in Austin, TX, and drove it home 22-hours when we got it. Prefer iPod connectivity. In addition, her old one had PDK, Nav, power sport seats, leather, Xenons, moonroof, but I think we got lucky on that one. Turning 64-years-old soon, she had hoped her 128i might be the BMW to last her until she stops driving—after a 2002, 2000 sedan, E12, E28, and E39. She really liked her E82! Thanks for any help in locating a replacement. Before: After: Last edited by BMWCCA1; 06-20-2021 at 08:04 AM.. |

We just got back from ten-hours of driving to look at two of the fine examples on FB marketplace. The first was a DSB over Taupe leather Sport/Premium with Xenon lights. Looked decent enough in the photos and clean Carfax. But what a disappointment in the horrible paint finish from years of neglect, the poorly installed replacement windshield that already needed replacing, damage to LF fender, dirty interior . . . it was so bad we walked around it once and didn't even feel like it was worthy of negotiation or driving. On the way home we stopped at an AW over black M-sport we'd briefly looked at on FB but since it was on the way home . . .
Not horrible. The Concept1 stripes would have been removable, but it just smacked of neglect with damaged front bumper, dented rear, stiff leather, and the lack of Premium Package and Xenons was just too much to overcome at its top-dollar asking price which wasn't apparently negotiable enough. We didn't even drive this one, either. So, still looking. Prefer private sellers over low-line dealers bottom-feeding and passing their inventory off as anything other than the dregs of what's left of available 1-series. Limiting to minimum of Sport package may be an issue, but it's important to us. I honestly didn't think finding an Automatic to fit the bill would be this difficult. It's not even the price, but it is content and condition we're looking for. Amazing how lucky we got on our first two 128i purchases—and sad to be having to try again so soon! We appreciate any leads! Last edited by BMWCCA1; 06-21-2021 at 11:20 PM.. |

Sad experience. I checked out two automatics (non-sport) at used car lots up here around Seattle when I first started looking seriously a few weeks back. One is in fine shape, one is ... let's say not, but both are far better than what you described. They *are* out there.
I've seen a number of Sport or M package ATs on CarGurus and AutoTempest plus a few on CraigsList. You an open nationwide CL searches directly from the AutoTempest search results. Hope that helps you find better prospects than Fb Marketplace. Good luck. |

There were a few there I hadn't seen. One that really stuck out was a silver/black 2013 non-sport but with sport seats, leather, HID, etc, but with only 32k on it they were asking $17,300 plus processing and detail fee which pushed it north of $18,000. As much as I like these cars, that's just throwing money away for my wife to drive as a commuter less than ten-miles 4-days each week! And I know how my insurance company would value it if she were to hit a deer! So, we keep looking! |

Ever consider buying back the totaled car to part out? You could keep the sport seats which might make your search easier (assuming air bags did not deploy). Might be a profitable deal if they dont ask too much for it.

I was cleaning the broken glass out of it last night before removing personal belongings from the trunk and back seat. It was in really nice shape and, other than the trunk and L/R quarter, the paint is still perfect. Made my wife really appreciate what she had compared to what we've been looking at as replacements. So far no comparison between the two cars we bought from private owners and what the used-car dealers are offering dredged from auctions. |

A customer I'd ordered a new X3 M40i for came in today to pick up his new BMW. I'd almost forgotten about his trade, and didn't have a need for it personally at the time we ordered his new car. But how quickly things change.
He is trading a Monaco Blue with grey leather 2007 328ix with 84k, loaded with Sport Package, Premium Package, Xenons, Logic7 Sound, Nav, Bluetooth, Cold Weather with fold-down rear seats and ski bag. He is the original owner and has always kept the car in a garage. It listed for damn near $48k back in 2006. All services have been done on schedule in our shop. It's larger than my wife wants, and it's not a 1-series, but she's driven it and (after our recent adventures) she's impressed by how nicely kept it is. Plus the owner is a great guy. We may just buy this one for her to drive and keep looking for the right 128i. She's getting tired of driving my stick E28 535i and her left knee is suffering from it! And there is something to be said for a car nearly falling into our laps! This is how we got it, before cleanup!: |

Actually, my wife's E39 528i Silver with Grey interior was/is surprisingly easy to keep clean. Don't know why they discontinued the Grey Leather interior sometime after 2011 on the 3-series and later on the 5er. We sold quite a lot of it just for that reason.

Thanks for letting me know. Not sure if it's the one for my wife without further info, but if you post the year, interior, VIN here, maybe others can find it in this thread. All the best.

We purchased the 2007 328ix Sport Premium with 84k to tide us over until the right 128i comes back into our lives. My wife is growing fond of it after two days. It has nearly everything she had on her Year-One-of-the-One with the exception of PDC. It's very comfortable and in near-perfect condition. Plus she loves the gray leather like she had in her E39—helped by the fact that the leather on this one is in perfect condition!
We'll continue to look for E82s and consider cars with the correct equipment but this was too good to pass up. Thanks! |
